Senator Reid is 75 years old and has been in politics since 1968. He has had a long career. He entered the senate in 1986 and became Majority leader in 2006. He was injured this winter in a fall.
This is a fascinating read. Justice Stephan Johnson Fields is on the top of the list. You will never guess who else has made the list.
Citizens United ruling took some basis from a descent by Fields that corporations are people. This article gives an incite into this man and four others that probably should not have been on the bench.
There has been a dispute about a rock formation that is in the way of a new highway in Iceland It is believed to be an elf church. The Lord of the Rings is based on this mythology. The people of Iceland takes this seriously.
This is excerpted from the book HRC: State Secretes and the Rebirth of Hillary Clinton.
Clinton faced the task of raising money for the US Pavilion at the World's Fair that was held in Shanghai in 2010. The Chines was upset that the US had no plans to build one. Hillary made it happen with the help of the right people.
Hillary Clinton was the key note speaker at this event. The audience was warm to her and responded to parts of her speech enthusiastically. It was not a campaign speech and neither did she mention the emails from the time that she was Secretary of State. The speech followed up on the theme of the conference and the tone was directed to the audience that was there. She honored the women who have blazed a trail for other women to enter politics. The issues she talked about was family issues, economical issues and labor issues. The speech was gracious and thoughtful.
I guess the Times thought they should bring this up since that started the whole email scandal for HRC. It did take JEB only 7 years to turn his over to the state. I know there is at least a dozen of them from me. I wasn't happy with him and I told him that often. Maybe the Times is trying to walk all this back. After all it only took HRC 4 months to get all of her's to the State Dept.
I don’t know who wrote the letter, but I can tell you whose fingerprints are on it: the only folks who are supporting it publicly, the hard-right Israel lobby. Even as Cotton himself splutters on national television, rightwing lobby groups are the main voices out there defending the letter.
Last year, Emily's List started the Rising Star Award to honor Gabby Gifford. This year it was presented to Ayanna Pressley as the second winner of this award. Retired Astronaut Mark Kelly, Gabby's husband with her presents the award. This was a chance to see how well she is doing since she left the House for me. I love her smile. What courage she has.
Instinctively, I'd find myself on the side of the reformers—anything to ratchet down Americans' consumption of empty calories. But deeper into the aisles of Dollar General, I begin to waver. Helber asks me to consider a single mother supporting two kids on a wage of about $9.50 an hour—a typical income for the people served by her food bank, even amid Austin's ever-soaring tech economy. Helber points out some of the hard decisions the mother would have to make.
In the recent years, C-Pac Convention has been covered by the media as if it was a the only important political support group in this country. We get to watch in the news every goofy nutty idea that comes out of the guest speakers mouths. There is even a run down published and covered about the proper dress code for the attendees. OK enough said about that.
It leaves many of us wondering why liberals don't put on these kinds of news worthy events with great political speakers. Well they do.
This year just a week after C-Pac's annual blow out, Emily's List celebrated their 30th Anniversary with a gala event showcasing successful Democratic women in politics.
This stuff is stored in old bunkers at the old National Guard Camp Minden in Louisiana. Read the story. The owners of the munitions contractors should go to jail for this.
I looked for a local report on this but didn't find one yet. This is big news in my area because this is the home of the Circus. The elephants will be missed.
This could be the next food fight in Congress. Families in states like Florida that turned down Medicaid expansion, depend on chip to cover their kids. They pay a small monthly premium for the coverage. Funding is running out on this program.
The program serves children from families that earn too much to qualify for Medicaid. Unlike Medicaid, it’s not an open-ended entitlement program, so states have more flexibility to limit eligibility, which ranges from 100 percent of the federal poverty line to about 400 percent.
We are going to see several southern states object to AP History courses in the public high schools. They are not happy with history that don't cover American exceptionalism and their version of history. This also ties in with the common core battle. AP History Course is written by the College Boards to meet the standards of entry college level course. It is not the same people that wrote Common Core. AP courses help the student to earn college credits and is a great savings in college tuition.
US Federal Judge Andrew Hanen is of the US District Court in Brownsville, Texas and was appointed by George W. Bush, has issued an injunction against the President until the case has made it's way through court. Twenty-six states have filed this case stating that the President have over stepped his authority on immigration action. These are Republican held states. The injunction was just filed yesterday.
