An Extremely Late Friday Afternoon at the Haikulodeon

Here's this week's heap of haikus:

    Somewhere in the deep
    recesses of my brain, sleep
    forgotten haikus.

    ---

    He had tried so hard
to always do what was right,
    there was nothing left.

    ---

     A quiet morning.
She sits in her garden and
    sips her iced green tea.

    ---

    My next-door neighbor
tends my garden while I'm gone
    gladiolas bloom.

    ---

    On a Summer's day,
    an old jalopy sputters
    down a dusty road.

    ---

    Brexit-ku:

    Conundrums collide!
    Climactic catastrophes
    clearly caused chaos!

    Brits; "Eww, to EU"
Stock markets panic ... Good News?!
    Cameron resigns.

    ---

    The arc of your life,
    will pierce many souls, sewing
    tapestries of hope.

    ---

    Once he had learned the
    multiplication tables,
    it all added up.

    ---

    tanka haiku:

    With all of her heart,
    She had wished for happiness,
    One day, it arrived.

Though her joy was boundless, she
       Grew weary of smiling.

    ---

    When she walked away,
I brought my hands to my face,
    To hold in my dreams.

    ---

    My neighbors must think
that God has become quite deaf ...
    I'm yelling my prayers.

    ---

    On a rainy night
    Neon reflections disrupt
    such eerie shadows.

    ---

    Will you ever wake?
    Or will you dream forever?
    Will you ever know?

    ---

    Those being drenched may
not think of how they will
    be blessed by the storm.

    ---

    And there were rainbows
that swept across the sky when
    the rain had ended.

    ---

    Shifting winds. Light rain.
He unzipped his coat. She closed
    her large umbrella.

    ---

    Who have you steadied?
Whose heart have you opened? Whose
    dreams have you unleashed?

    ---

    What is on your mind,
the weight of the world ... or the
    lightness of being?

    ---

    She no longer cares
    if she impresses others,
    she just likes to sing.

    ---

    A slice of apple,
a wedge of sharp cheddar cheese,
    and a woman to love.

    ---

    Coffee on the porch,
    watching kids on bicycles
    chased by barking dogs.

    ---

    Reading comic books
    and playing travel bingo
    got them to Grandma's

    ---

    At the sky's edges,
    mountaintops still pierce the clouds,
    to peek at heaven.

    ---

    Her flowers were left
    leaning 'gainst the headstone, for
    she had not a prayer.

    ---

    He's got vertigo
you can bet he's sure to go
    falling down the stairs.

    ---

    Though she pined for him,
she could not find a way to
    gracefully forgive.

    ---

    Voids are always filled.
    Whisperers will find an ear
    in a quiet room.

    -----

    Talking out loud while
    watching La Boheme is rude.
    "Sotto voce, jerk!"

    ---

    The man in the moon
    silently observes lovers,

    both young and foolish.

    ---

    So proudly she stood
    admiring her work. I
    just snapped the photo.

    ---

    Stillness of the lake,
broken by the sound of loons
    as I row to shore.

    ---

    An unexpected
    infatuation will help
    mend a broken heart.

    ---

    Walking through meadows
    just before sunrise, is worth
    some wet trouser cuffs.

    ---

    Who languishes in
    the loneliest of places
    wishing they were dead?

    ---

    She has a great smile
which can send him to the moon.
So ... he makes her laugh.

I wanted to add this memory that popped up this week because I know DD enjoys them.

One of NYC's longtime Disc Jockey's passed away last Tuesday.  His name was Dan Daniel, aka Dandy Dan Daniel

"Dandy" Dan Daniel was a long-time NYC Disc Jockey. He was one of the WMCA "Good Guys" in the 1960's and later worked at WINS when it was still a top 40 music station. Most recently he was on WCBS-FM. I met him in 1968 when I was a Senior in high school. I wanted to be an actor and a girl I went to school with (I think her name was Angela) told me that she wanted to be a model and I should come do this student modeling show for Macy's which was being held at Jones Beach. Evidently, they were desperate for young guys to pair with the high school girls for the show. So I went, they gave me some great clothes to wear, and we did two shows and all I had to do was walk around with the girls and turn around every so often. Dan Daniels was the Emcee for the shows. He seemed like a nice guy and we chatted between shows (because I also thought I might want to be a disc jockey.) What made the day memorable was that I did something which was very uncharacteristic for me, especially me at that age. The show at Jones Beach was on a small stage only a couple of feet off the ground and there was a bunch of 'tough-looking' kids that were being a bit aggressive. The people from Macy's didn't know what to do, and the 'tough-looking' kids were bothering the young models. And they were threatening to beat up all the guys, etc. So, during one of my times onstage, I saw one of the models being harassed and, pretending it was part of the show, I leapt off the stage into the crowd and landed in the middle of the group of "tough-looking" kids, which evidently scared the beejeezus out of them. I then turned and jumped back on stage, made a turn and danced offstage. The girl who was being harassed thanked me profusely, and the people from Macys were ecstatic because they thought it made their fashion show seem dangerously hip and spontaneous. LOL   I felt like a hero ... until I saw the "tough looking" kids waiting for me.   Somehow I found a way to sneak off by talking to Dan Daniel until I got to the bus which was taking all of the student models home. Wow, I haven't thought about that story for a long time.

    Anyway, RIP Dan Daniel.

( That's all for now.  Busy day, I'll try to add more later.)

Forgot to post this one earlier:

    a haiku quartet:

    The sidewalk peddler
earns his living lately in the
    glow of the streetlamp.

    He can not go home
    to Rivington Street 'til he
    has sold all his fruit.

    To each passersby
he offers a plum and smiles
    when they do not buy.

    the glow of the streetlight
    enshrines persistence and he
    continues hoping.
