This little beauty is a Digbyana Orchid. This one dates back the the 17th century and originally came from Central America. It's name is Brassavoa nodosa Lady of the Night after a Italian Doctor, Antonio Musa Brassavoa. This is an original species but there are hybridized variations now. This one is one of the easiest orchids to grow. At night it has a lovely citrus smell almost like lime. That is why it's nick name is Lady of the Night. This plant is around 15 years old.
There is another blooming now. It is a little orchid and looks to be a Cattleya Bowringiana variation. It is a little orchid and is a pretty shade of blue orchid.
My little orange orchids that live in the ground out side are blooming. The little flowers are known as a Epidendrum that grows all over the sub tropical Florida and Caribbean. Some come from Central America. There are a 1000 varieties but these little orange ones you will find them around Tampa as a landscape plant. I have 3 of these plants outside. They start blooming in the spring then a second bloom happens in the summer months. The roses behind the orchids is a miniature tea rose. I have had it for several years. It was left for dead but TLC brought it back. There are not many roses that do well in South Florida.
I have pineapples almost ready. Two of the plants have fruit. Right now they are getting ripe and I am keeping a eye on them for another couple of day. I have two plants to put in the ground that was started in pots last year. They should fruit next summer. I will use the tops off of these two to start more. The plant that gave me a pineapple last year died back and there are now little plants around the base of it. So it looks like there will be more from it in a couple of years.
These are the two plants I started last year from tops to be planted now and hopefully I will get fruit from them next year.
I am soon going to have my own mini pineapple plantation.

Awesome, momoe! Thank you for the beauty ... (now I'm craving pineapple).

It has been gruesome with the latest news. Just thought I would do something light.
Orchids are not something you get to grow just anywhere they take special care and conditions. It is fun to just share my collection with everyone here. It is the same thing with pineapple. It is the symbol of hospitality in this country since colonial days.
Thanks for your comment.

I do love fresh pineapple, but it's so much work to get into it! I'm sure you have a trick or two - what do you do with it? Just chow down or use it for something special?

Isn't this great?

I make my own pineapple jam from fresh pineapple. That is how I got the tops to plant. This will be the first time I can make the jam from my own pineapple. Mine taste better then what you buy in the store. It is like the jam that sits on the top shelf with a big price on it in a pretty jar.I have a step by step recipe from a year ago on my food blog.

I use the jam to cook with sometimes. I use it to make cookies and filling in cakes. Mostly we just eat it on toast.
I have been watching you tube videos tonight on when to cut them and how to keep my plants healthy. I have some suckers that I can use also to make new plants. I found out that they like fish emulsion which I have. The orchids get feed with that once a week. Also I can put an apple core in the center of the plant and let it stay for a couple of weeks. It will make the plant bloom. I didn't do anything with the plants just gave them some fertilizer a couple of times. They did this on their own.

Thanks for sharing. As I commented to someone at WordPress, people spend so much money to go to far away places, when there is so much to discover right around us.
