Sitting in Spain glad I didn't choose Barcelona or Valencia this time. As usual Europe and elsewhere get it worse, but we complain more.

I've got to admit some very selfish immediate gut thoughts: carefree driving is over for the rest of my life except for very rural areas.
Second, it will be a miracle if Trump doesn't demagogue this incompetently to the further detriment of relations with Europe in fighting terrorism. Puhleez some grown up from the national security state jump in and contra him.
Third, I saw an interview on TV last night with the two black women who were in the car in Charlottesville that was rear ended by the terror car. I was glued to everything they said. They were just regular young southern gals, not students, not that sophisticated, not political. They were still clearly very shaken by the experience. They were just trying to do the shortcut home through town rather than go around the town, but stay away from the action, but then they ended up in the middle of it because of detours. They said they felt god had put them there to stop more people from getting hit, that their car blocked his and save lives. They described watching the EMT trying to revive Heather Heyer as if it was an image they will never forget. The rest of the experience as they described it boiled down to this: we really get terrorism now, we feel what it is like to be a victim of terrorism and it is horrible. It's horrible to feel you could just die by sitting at a stop sign. They did mention that they now felt targets because they were black, and that they are now frightened of racists running free, but overall, I also saw a deep sudden understanding of how terrorism works with a couple of gals that might have been dismissive before.

Trump's doing much worse than I feared

Trump sponsors terror.
He made that quite clear last year.
A man of his word.

Well here's an idea for him: better yuger spectacular gig than U.S. president. Set up coliseums where you have car crash gladiator events between Islamists and White Nationalists. Blow extreme wrestling outta the water, rinky dink stuff. No collateral damage (except to brains.) All war of civilizations kayfabe all the time.

At least 13 dead, 100 injured, including foreign tourists, accdg. to CNN 5 mins. ago. The driver is still at large according to PP's Guardian live link. 27 min ago Spanish prime minister Mariano Rajoy said the van attack was “jihadist terrorism” which required a global response. “Today the fight against terrorism is the principal priority for free and open societies like ours. It is a global threat and the response has to be global,” Rajoy said during a news conference

This video tweet gives me sad memories from 9/11, with an attack this bad, the days directly after are the worst, because they are not sure what will happen next, security won't let you return to normal life (as would be the appropriate response to an attempt to terrorize) until they figure out what happened, there is this enormously frightening and sad emptiness:

Andalucia? ISIS idiots shot dead while others blow themselves up, while they don't even know they're not in Andalucia. Pathetic motherfuckers.

Strikes me that "pathetic" hits the spot so much better than "evil." In essence ridiculing their narrative rather than buying into it. I know this is what works to decimate Al Qaeda et.al. theory. You take them seriously, you help them. Not so sure about other forms of "terrorism" and other bad hombres, but I am sure about this with them. I am very susceptible to the argument, though, that it also applies to a lot of mass shootings, as there the "fame for the ages" thing often applies. If the main fame is ridicule, wouldn't appeal so much. Except in the cases of irrational impulsive anger, but for the guys plotting for days, weeks, months, the strong possibility of a legacy of ridicule would work.

Another thought on the word "evil". It is an ultimate term by which I mean there is not a word which conveys its meaning in a stronger way. Consider how few words can convey the opposite meaning. Here is the list from the first thesaurus that popped up on google. None seem even near satisfactory to me as opposites whereas going into the spiritual area the word "angelic", though not listed, does. I have done my own rant on "evil" in the recent past.

Yeah, for me I'd favor sitting them in Las Ramblas for 5-10 years in a cage next to where the prostitutes hang, wearing pink furry teddies and passerby's allowed to throw cream puffs at them. Total ridicule, total La Cage aux Folles. Maybe "Is-lam? Is-dumb" dunce caps.

here's a "fun" 7 min.video for you if you need to take your mind off the environmental sadness with Russia or somethin'; I thought of you as soon as he started talking about "manliness" in former SSR's clicking with Trumpco brand

12 guys 6 mos to kill 13 - morons. They'd have been as effective wielding sharpened pencils with no planning. 120 gas containers - what, they were going to assault people's lawns, mow them badly? Or blowing themselves up was intended, go straight for those 13-year-old virgins? Dumb and dumber fortunately have taken over @ ISIS.
