Listened to your link thru the first few minutes of his tape of the call with Mark Townsend. Then I quit because I was getting embarrassed for him, it was l9ike reminding me of Trump arguing that "the media" is not fair with him especially as he is a genius.
Instead I went searching on Twitter for people's reactions to this videotape. In the midst of checking some of those out, I found this most excellent and interesting June 2 article which was of far more interest to me than Mate whining on and on about Townsend's supposed unfairness and unprofessionalism towards him:
Sorry, but no sale on your link. I tried. Mate's a propagandist and a hopeless loser; I didn't need Mark Townsend's throwaway summary line on that to inform me, I already knew it was like he said.

thought-provoker for far lefties who hate the U.S.:

So far Lulu is ignoring the invasion of Ukraine, preferring to obsess with Mate over 1 chemical incident in Syria (leaked info! alert! conspiracy! scandal!) that would seem to excuse or negate Russian imperialism and massive citizen attacks there and elsewhere. 6 months into a near European war we're to stay raptly tuned to a missile strike 3 years ago. That Mate embarrasses himself on a phone call by repeating the same questions he's repeated for 3 years and somehow thinks this helps his cause it reputation is bizarre, but not so different from Trump obsessing on the 2020 election "fraud" or his rally crowd numbers or anything else.
In Lulu's eyes I'm pretty sure he sees himself as a pacifist, still waiting for that "Darkness at Noon" awakening from the Thirties.

I suspect Grayzone is going to have a tough time going forward with the same general ideology/program, so the only thing to do is focus on the past? Sure there is always a contrarian 'journalism', but this particular consensus is so overwhelming that it's tough to spin it any other way than allies vs. axis, with the axis a very weak coalition of unsavory characters to boot
Basically the only alternative narrative available on topic is War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength.Which Putin is admittedly using on Russian citizens who haven't left to some effect

Maybe PP, you did listen to the entire post. At least you didn’t start by saying, as if to add weight to your comment, that you did not even listen to it and so you are not establishing from the git-go that you are speaking with haughty disdain from a position of complete ignorance. But, then your comment seems to indicate otherwise. The invasion of Ukraine is just one of the almost infinite number of subjects that this news item is completely NOT about, so not talking about that invasion is not at all a case of ignoring it. Your first point is pointless and the comment does not get any better or more to the actual point going forward from there. The podcast shows how a once highly respected newspaper published a blatantly spurious hit piece on Mate’ and when the responsible “journalist” was confronted by Mate’ to produce a single piece of evidence justifying his libelous assertions he stonewalls and otherwise refuses to answer a couple simple yes-or-no questions which Mate’ deserved an answer to. The exchange is newsworthy in several important ways. The Guardian’s smearing of a good journalist in an attempt to negate his good journalism, and it's doing so with unsupportable accusations, did not happen three years ago , it happened very recently, and, like the OPCW’s unethical handling of the Douma investigation, it is legitimate and important news whenever it is discovered and reported. Cheers.

What I see that neither you nor Mate really know how to read a news piece. Townsend's article wasn't a "hit piece" about Mate or Grayzone, it was simply reporting about a new major "hit piece" on conspiracy theorists, if you want to call it that.
Townsend isn't doing that, because he's not injecting his personal opinion; he furthermore says
Actually if any smearing is going on is more of the smearing of the messenger Townsend by Mate, who doesn't understand the principles of reporting on publications rather than writing an opinionated review of them. I have more respect for Townsend that he treated Mate's complaint with adding a footnote. I sure wouldn't do that for him if I were Townsend, it's Mate's problem that he's labeled that way in the report. (Geez, it really is like Trump whining about the media coverage of things he actually does and says.)

P.S. What really was a true unashamed hit piece was the link I offered as content I preferred Dipshit Does Damascus: Grayzone’s Aaron Mate Sells What’s Left of Soul Shilling for Bashar al-Assad’s Sham Syrian Presidential Election by Ken Silverstein. The slur "dipshit" rang even more accurate given I had first watched the beginning of the pitiful video you recommended.

OPCW(?) answered Mate 2 yrs ago - his star "witnesses" were barely involved - he's just repeating himself, acting wronged, claiming there's still a there there. Whiny bitch telephone calls don't help ur brand, dude. "Why won't you give me an ad hoc phone bite i can spin for my audience rather than a careful thought-out email reply?" repeat x40.

Yeah, I'm still upset about something that happened in Congo in 2000, 5 million dead, lots of rapes, so I'm not gonna talk about Syria, Ukraine, Jan6 or abortion. Gotta stay focused.
Except that Assange dude & Snowden protecting democracy, leaking all the right stuff, cuz if it's a leak it must be true, amirite?

something from Jan. 6 testimony that non-interventionist peaceniks might take note of.

I see Aaron is finding a way to put the Zawahri story in the context of his 'American plot" narrative on Syria
working on more anti-Ukraine, pro-Russian spin:
promoting that a huge network of media is in on the NATO funded conspiracy that is also all out for him as the only honest journo in the world
and throwing in some anti-Israel spin for good measure:
There's also a sprinkling of retweets in support of Julian Assange as well as the newest victims of the anti-Russian.FBI Praetorian guard of the American empire, the Black Hammer and the Uhuru groups.
It's the same fucking cherry picking news to fit a half-century-old anti-American narrative over and over and over and over. Anyone who finds this kind of "journalism" interesting must have fell in love with Brezhnev once and just won't let go. It's the SAME fucking anti-American propaganada narrative over and over and over and over. Nothing ever changes it because everything pulled from the news fits the narrative or is ignored. What he sells is like for the little kid who wants to hear the same bedtime story over and over and over. Must be comforting to believe such simplistic crap propaganda about how the world works.

Juliana who?

I can't believe The Hill gave Mate a video interview 6+ minutes to share his simplistic agitprop on Ukraine, but I guess their mission is to keep politicians and their aides informed of all varieties of political spin
And let's stress that it is opinion, political spin, NOT "journalism".

Counterpunch (remember him, why has he become chopped liver in the anti-American crowd? too old?) pipes up reminding us all that despite its flaws, Russia is still a far better country than our racist shithole:

Glenn meanwhile is whining (from Brazil, I remind everyone) that all the anti-hegemon isolationists are gone, nobody will hang on poor little Russia's side anymore except Hawley and Rand Paul:
Gosh it's almost like we're finally getting that new world order the the Rockefellers and Rothschilds plotted so long ago, watch out for those black U.N. choppers, Glenn

In case you don't know him, he's using the term "liberal" as regards the UK, not the U.S., as he's a British-Lebanese war correspondent
