Schmidt was passionate and articulate on Brian Williams, again, last night. Pulling no punches re McConnell, Trump, etc. perfidy.
As an aside, Williams closed by informing viewers of an approximately 2:20-2:30 pm EST warning they will see flashed on their cell phones today. It is a test of some emergency notification system from the President, serving similar purposes as the early AM TV tests of the Emergency Broadcast System.
It is a test. I would say there is no actual emergency but the way things have been going in this country and in the world, 4 hours is a long time, and some feel that we are presently in an emergency-like situation.
What was interesting to me was Williams' belief, probably correct, that among his viewers there likely were some who are feeling a bit emotionally frayed or on edge these days on account of all the public goings-on, on top of what they are dealing with in their personal lives. And that the heads-up he was taking air time to provide to let them know this will be a test, and that there is not a real emergency, might prevent some unnecessary anxiety or behaviors when the warning comes on.

the signee count on the letter from law professors against confirmation has risen to over 1,700.
To be clear: the letter says that the one thing they all agree on is that he does not have the correct judicial temperament for the Supreme Court.
His reputation as a justice anywhere: KAPUT!

Retired Justice Stevens basically agrees with the letter, in public comments:

A jury of his peers.
If confirmed, it will be like that last scene at the opera in Dangerous Liaisons when Marquise de Merteuil is booed but in this movie, she can't leave.

oh my word, he's trying to "court" them with an op-ed in the WSJ! This is just too bizarre:
Guess he's got damage control to do one way or another.

As part of the masthead, I have clearance to provide dispensations in absentium. Say 10 Precious baby Jesuses and 5 Jolly Rogers and call me in the morning.

Fucker didn't address how he talked to Democrats. The girls are just a beard for him. A weird ironical beard.

Requiem for the Supreme Court
By Garrett Epps, Professor of constitutional law at the University of Baltimore @ TheAtlantic.com, Oct. 7
Through the 20th century, the Court stood as an independent arbiter of the rule of law. It is a unifying, national institution no longer.
