Interview by David Remnick @ NewYorker.com, April 2. Has both text and audio versions.
During an exit interview in November, 2016, just weeks after the election, David Remnick asked President Obama who the future leaders of the Democratic Party might be, and who could realistically challenge Trump in 2020. A surprising figure Obama named was Pete Buttigieg, the mayor of South Bend, Indiana, who, at the time, was only thirty-four. In recent weeks, Buttigieg’s profile has risen dramatically, and he has collected campaign donations at a surprising clip, considering that he lacks the national profile of a senator or governor. The field of Democrats running for President is enormous, but Buttigieg stands out for a few reasons. He’s a Navy veteran, born and raised in the city he governs, so you could say that he has real heartland credibility. He’s also the first gay Presidential candidate with a real shot at the nomination. Buttigieg is a millennial who graduated high school in the year 2000 and, if elected, would be the youngest President by far. In a conversation with Remnick for The New Yorker Radio Hour, the Democratic hopeful discussed his experience as a small-city mayor, a Navy officer, and a gay man [....]

"If I want their opinion, I'll beat it out of them..."
Hadn't intended it, but the whole "learn another language" thing is very old school.
We have electronic Babble fish to carry with us, except the need to know English.
You can take a 4 week vacation through Europe and never crack a language sweat.
About the only actually useful one is Chinese, but there, forget it.
But yeah, AOC countering the Trump team's obsession with $32,000 divans and special $5K auto curtains,
vs a hex wrench on some DIY Ikea furniture while waxing on about democratic socialist values -
sure, GOP blokes - call her an elitist. That'll take, I'm sure.
Even Pete to me seems to be fighting some last campaign's battle, wanting to be the "why can't we all get along" promise of Obama 2008 that's gone with the wind/2008 crash. Yes, I appreciate he seems to run a smaller city well. But there's a lot more to taming DC in 2020.

oops dupe delete. See I have the typical senior citizen touchpad control issue! We lose marketing savvy, and the next to go is fine motor control...

Orange you going to say Apple? as for motor control, we'll have Elon's auto drive - won't that be fine?

First thing I thought: it's atypical for his generation. Then wondering how much it would matter to those of his generation that don't agree. Which then got me thinking how what may really be happening is that there are few voters around any more for whom stance on Israel/Palestine alone is a deal breaker. Could be wrong but I would think hawkishness or not is definitely still a deal breaker for many, but not stance on IP, that it's less and less a hot button.

Like all the Arab nations who are bored with it - it's hard to maintain outrage for 70 years.
Bibi just waited them out.

yes, that is what I was thinking. Maybe I'm wrong, but seems to me that IP outrage is mainly limited to college campuses these days and it's precisely because it's all new to them, they just learned about it, heh.
