though there is pride in general Caribbean culture as well - i.e. Puerto Ricans and Jamaicans etc. are seen like "brothers," with the exception the one thing you sense is that none of them want to have anything to do with the Haiti or Haitian national history, they are not proud of it, they don't want anything to do with Haiti, not at all proud that it was a country formed by slaves. Even Cubans are "brothers" whether pro-Castro or not, but not Haitians. It's like Haitians are foreigners....and again, even very dark-skinned Jamaicans are not see this way.

Events: Heavy gunfire is occuring around the area of the U.S. Embassy and residential compounds adjacent to the Trutier area of Tabarre. All Embassy personnel have been instructed to remain indoors and shelter-in-place until further notice. All others should avoid the area.

Actions to take:

Avoid the area;

Avoid demonstrations and any large gatherings of people;

Do not attempt to drive through roadblocks; and

If you encounter a roadblock, turn around and get to a safe area.
