    Senator Moran, (R-Kansas) "Freedom - this could lead to single payer" "keep the government out of health care" "need innovative solutions".

    Sens. Mike Lee (R-UT) In a statement, Lee said he opposed the bill –the Better Care Reconciliation, Act–because it kept some Obamacare taxes and regulations. (No stated concern for the welfare of the poor or the sick.)

    Senator Rand Paul (R- Kentucky) (In Kentucky, 49.6% of the residents are on a fully or partially subsidized federal health care plan-Medicare, Medicaid or Chip)

    Senator Rand Paul: "I think the longer the bill's out there, the more conservative Republicans are going to discover that it's not (a) repeal. And the more... everybody's going to discover that it keeps the fundamental flaw of Obamacare," "For all Republicans' complaints about the death spiral of Obamacare, they don't fix it, they simply subsidize it with taxpayer monies, which I just don't agree with at all," he said.

    There was one "moderate Republican"...one  lonely female Republican senator who listened to health experts,  the American Medical Association, the National Nursing Association, the nations's major hospital association and insurance association that too many Americans would lose health insurance with Trump/McConnell care. She was the only one with the concern about people losing insurance, and in maintaining the financing and integrity of the nation's health care system.

    The ever "win seeking" Trump now, within the last 30 minutes, is calling for just repealing Obamacare (and the taxes on the wealthy that also support Medicare). With no replacement.

    Needs a win, even if it bankrupts or kills people.

    If the Republicans don't actually go for that tRump "WIN", it may be an admission there may be some of them who realize the immediate collapse of the US health care system as we know it, may be a disaster for the welfare of their constituents may interfere with their personal re-election and political career.

    McCain has now chimed in with what amounts to a 5th “no” vote. In a written statement he declares, “One of the major problems with Obamacare was that it was written on a strict party-line basis and driven through Congress without a single Republican vote. As this law continues to crumble in Arizona and states across the country, we must not repeat the original mistakes that led to Obamacare’s failure.” He urges Congress to “return to regular order, hold hearings, receive input from members of both parties, and heed the recommendations of our nation’s governors so that we can produce a bill that finally provides Americans with access to quality and affordable health care.”

    Trump was prepared to shoulder no blame for the failure of the bill on Tuesday, and warned he would now simply let Obamacare fail.

    "We're not going to own it. I'm not going to own it. I can tell you the Republicans are not going to own it. We'll let Obamacare fail and then the Democrats are going to come to us," Trump told reporters at the White House. CNN

    Not just right wing, it was a "coalition" against.

    It did not go far enough for many conservative Republicans, who wanted to roll back more of the ACA’s mandates on insurers.

    And the bill went much too far for many moderates, especially Republicans from states that had taken advantage of the ACA’s offer to expand Medicaid eligibility. The bill would have cut Medicaid funding and phased out its expansion in 31 states and the District of Columbia. Some senators worried that their states would be saddled with the unpalatable choice of cutting off people’s health coverage or shouldering a massive new financial burden [....]

    I think the lesson here might be that with this Congress, it's always going to be easier to block things than to make sausage?
     
    They really have no unity in ideology, there is an incredible mix across the board.
     
    What strikes me: I suspect that for for those left of center, I don't think the traditional ways of blaming the GOP as if they are all far right wingers is going to get us anywhere. Trump as luny leader is an incredible wild card, really screws things up for them? Should a President Pence become reality, it might be different then?
     
    In the meantime, on any attempted legislation on any issue tries to go with past GOP conservative promises, it seems to me that if activists in each state rile up their Senators and Governors about how this or that change will hurt them, you won't get much sausage. And then the right wing media will yell: do nothing Congress, and then it's "vote the bums out."
     
    I just think left of center has to change their modus operandi because: things are not the way they were during the Obama years. We have a new paradigm. It's not just "Dems vs. GOP." Out in the real world, you've got things like practical GOP governors who are not always going to be thrilled about right wingers nor Fox news nor conservative talk radio getting their way.
