Surely if at arraignment they had given him an appointment with a social worker, they could have got him in with a therapist with a B.S. in psychology (Medicaid don't pay for psychiatrists). And they could have worked together on his issues of wanting to help burn down all of Oregon and his love of fire...
See: there, all solved! No need for police to harass arsonists and arrest them for setting fires and no need to keep arsonists in jail. After all, Oregon is merely property, which doesn't really matter.

Of course he's mentally ill. That's one of my points! Of course he is not antifa, this story does not even go there.
Of course there's global warming and California and Oregon are full of dry brush with no rain.
In which case in the meantime while we work on solving global warming, if you so much as throw your still-lit cigarette out the car window in northern California, you go to jail. One needs cops to see such folks and take them to the jail. No time to wait for results of therapy to break the person's littering and smoking habit.

Why do you often think every subject must be framed in political partisan message vs. message? And presume the person is either got to be part of one message machine or the other. Right here you jump on a meme that is being used by Trumpies in order to counter that, as if I am in the Trump camp. No, I am ignoring their framing totally in this case. I worry you're going to be at a loss to discuss anything without Trump framing to kick around anymore.

p.s. It's very much a personal interest as well. The brother-in-law and mother-in-law are back in their house in Medford, had to evacuate two days, but have been told to be ready to evacuate again. Others nearby did lose their homes. They told me in email that the local news tells them that their section of Medford was due not to natural wildfire spread, but to an arsonist feeding the wildfire spread. Needless to say they are for locking such people up or at the very least sending them to the north pole. Here rule of law means firefighting, not fire feeders free at large to do as they please.
