.....The Times reporting has identified the driver as Zemari Ahmadi, a longtime worker for a U.S. aid group. The evidence, including extensive interviews with family members, co-workers and witnesses, suggests that his travels that day actually involved transporting colleagues to and from work. And an analysis of video feeds showed that what the military may have seen was Mr. Ahmadi and a colleague loading canisters of water into his trunk to bring home to his family.....

"Experts who examined photos and videos pointed out that, although there was clear evidence of a missile strike and subsequent vehicle fire, there were no collapsed or blown-out walls, no destroyed vegetation, and only one dent in the entrance gate, indicating a single shock wave.
“It seriously questions the credibility of the intelligence or technology utilized to determine this was a legitimate target,” said Chris Cobb-Smith, a British Army veteran and security consultant...."
Dagblog, 8/30, NCD:
"Ground floor green door in picture above was not blown off, not to mention walls damaged/blown to bits, and old stucco is undamaged, 2nd floor patio sunshade undisturbed, see WaPo article or my blog.
Drone missiles are specially made just to kill people in target vehicles, explosive amount is a tiny fraction of a car bomb."

I llike "the military might have misinterpretd his action.." Duhh... They had 20 years experience at that, and a President out for revenge on somebody or anybody after the hit at the airport.
The guy was feeding hungry refugee kids in Kabul that afternoon with soy based foods he prepared at the California Kabul NGO he had worked at for a decade. The drone geniuses got the wrong guy, the wrong white Toyota, and seven kids ... .seven little Beau's..... then spun tales of "secondary explosions" to cover their ass.

I don't get your particular irateness on this - one of the big reasons for leaving Afghanistan was 20 years of covering up galling brutal mistakes with smug assurances of success - like the lies told around football player Pat Tillman's death, killed by US forces in a screwup that no one would admit. There's no doubt much of our "intelligence" is awful, making that "hearts and minds" mythology completely out of reach and largely the opposite on the ground. Maybe Biden will acknowledge this, maybe not. Frankly & sadly i think he has more important battles to fight right now, and there won't be any lessons learned by being candid - there'll just be more games of gotcha by the Republicans. Yeah, Cuomo undercounted nursing/senior home deaths - during a fight with Trump over Covid resources while Trump was using the DoJ to militarize the dispute. Now we've got Texas abortion, vaccination mandates, and Republican 2020 "audits" to go along with the budget fight. It's horrid about the NGO worker and family, but it's all par for the course in Afghanistan - including the "put a head on a pike" demonstration of a fast and furious response, whether successful or all gone pear-shaped. It's amazing this hasn't already become Biden's Benghazi, even though in that case nothing particularly wrong was done - we just got blindsided by a particular protest + militia action out in the desert a 1000 miles away from HQ. But politicization means we can't give these things the sober acknowledgment they deserve.

Irate due to the irresponsibility and immortality of this slipshod operation occurring contemporaneously with Biden's self righteous crowing about how his administration planned for everything and nobody could have done it better. Seemed like the plan was, Biden's political ass is on the line due to the ISIS-k suicide attack, blow somebody up, and say we got 'em, because Biden poll numbers are dropping. So they kill 7 kids and 3 adults, two working for the NGO or formerly for US forces, each even more tragic a loss than Beau, because they were murdered. Then lie about it because it was not just FUBAR, but criminal negligence, and telling the truth would just add another FUBAR to Biden's fiasco.
They didn't know who the target was, that his car was registered and spent the day at the California NGO building, that he put water jugs in the trunk filled ouside in broad daylight, etc etc A blogger at Dag could tell they were lying the next day just by looking at the photos.
They are still lying.
I am unaware of either Trump or Obama ordering a strike in a city on civilians without knowledge, and naming, exactly who they are targeting. It's super convenient to NOT name who you were after, just say "ISIS" 'got 'em', then killing anybody will do.
Drone strikes on allied forces under fire may hit the wrong target, but there are at least bad guys shooting at you.

With Tillman there was no enemy fire, just a cockup.

Comparable only if a Governor of AZ had Reaper droned college student Tillman in his ASU dorm killing him and 9 other students, said the dorm was an ISIS lair, claimed there were 'secondary explosions' after the hit, and that it was a righteous act that was carried out following strict procedures.

Just following from your "at least bad guys shooting at you", and the lies about Tillman were much the same as you decry here.

Killing people when you "don't know who they are" is a step or two removed not from a Casablanca "round up the usual suspects", but the Gestapo rounding up 10 random French males and executing them because the Resistance shot a German officer.

The thread supports your outrage, in case you didn't realize - i don't only post things that bolster my opinion (or better said, my opinion's not that narrow)

Thanks for the thread. Appreciated it. I did realize that Matthieu seemed appalled at the deadly screwup.

But let's not investigate Jan 6 or the 2016 election. Maybe another Benghazi/Hillary at State palooza
20 years to figure out somethings wrong in Afghanistan and leave, but we expect a new panel to figure it out?
