The Bishop and the Butterfly: Murder, Politics, and the End of the Jazz Age

    My third "new home"

Today's adventure in posting to TPM Cafe resulted in success, but it was not easy and we still assume that out last post there may be on the horizon.  I have been directed to three replacement venues and today signed up here, after also joining TPMaholics and Once Upon a TPM

As noted there I am looking for the "better crowd" that congregates at TPM, as opposed to the loud, and often doltish posts from Daily Kos, where, nonetheless, I also continue to post.so that I can get lectured about fideltity to liberalism and progressivism by people who know little more than how to yell the loudest.

I also post at The Public Servant who is, ummm, me.  I am Barth in most places, for reasons I have explained on the latter site.  Here, I am Barth 1, because Barth made a mistake while opening his account.  (Just a dumb ass, that Barth).

I am generally able to post only once a week.  I have made an exception today, so as to try to avoid starting this off with a cross post of stuff already on three sites, but cross-posting is my game, and almost everything that follows hereafter will be available on all those other sites, too.

The following is already at the TMP Cafe, and, by nightfall, everywhere else where I intend to post, but will serve as my first jotting here:

Don Draper may have decided against a quickie last night, astounding the Mad Men voyeurs, but here is a little post for a Monday morning.  It is based on this and a similar entry on the New Republic site which I cannot access in full and don't care to given its editor's comments of the past week.

But keep this in mind:  the "Franklin Roosevelt" who we correctly honor was dragged into the New Deal by his "brain trust" and wise heads in Congress (Glass and Steagall for instance).  As Krugman has pointed out, he had this budget balancing thing still in him until after 1938, when he made a big mess trying to do just that.

A presidency is full of fits and starts.  The current one said they would make mistakes on their way to getting it right.  That he has done so hardly justifies the hand wringing we are seeing.

    Comments

This is what I have decided to do Barth. And it helps to post here and do a little advertising of the other sites.

And the powers that be will highlight one or two of our 'Readers' on the top of the page.

And the leaders here like Orlando and Genghis know who we are. ha

    It's all goooooooooooood!!

I definitely prefer this site to TPM (and most definitely to DailyKOS), and I suggest that if you prostrate yourself at Genghis' feet, he just might give you the ability to use Barth again.

Noble Barth1, I hereby dub thee Barth. Go forth and blog.

Thanks.  I love this place already.

Barth, I'm really glad to see you here. I've always appreciated your writing and last time I read a TPM post of yours, I was going to comment that you should come over to join Dag. But then I couldn't log in. Glad you found it on your own!

Thank you; thank you.  I could not find my face on my own.  Fortunately, I was led here by other TPM Cafe people.  I would miss the place except for these new places which have replaced the old one.

I wonder whether I will still consult TPM as much as I used to now that they have shut us out.
