    Haitians Need Shelter

The Hatian government is asking for a minimum of 200,000 more tents for temporary housing, which might mean from now until half-of-forever.  I found an NGO based in the UK called Shelterbox, which has branches in a number of countries, including the US.  They have been pretty successful in getting tents delivered, given the circuitous routes containers travel to get to the island.  The small NGOs seem to have the edge on actually getting supplies to the people in need.

If you are so moved, click on the links, and read about Shelter Box; give if you can.  The rains will be coming soon, and shelter could make all the difference in saving lives.  They will also be making hospitals and clinics out of tents.

We're tapped; I am posting this in lieu of making a donation personally.

News about food and water distribution is scant; the last I could find was a video report on CNBC from the head of an NGO who was almost in tears about the confusion and lack of communication in getting supplies out.  There was a video of a semi pulling up to a distribution sight, the camera panned to an orderly group of people waiting, a few boxes and bags were thrown off, some grabbing and scuffling ensued, then the boxes were re-loaded onto the truck, the doors slammed, and the truck reportedly drove back to the UN warehouse.  I don't get it.

Talks with world leaders joined Hillary Clinton and Stephen Harper in Montreal three days ago to begin assessments and strategies for re-building and a long-term commitment to the nation.  I can only hope it goes better than the initial response.  This is Day 17, and the coverage is down to puff-pieces on individual stories, not much big-picture journalism.  Why?  And do any of you have links to news about what's happening on the ground?
