THESE ARE THE DAYS TO REMEMBER

Ripper McCord noted in Missy's blog today:

I'm so happy. I feel like I can see the stars and stripes by the dawn's early light, fluttering still in a billowing breeze.

My soul is rested, for a while at least. Thank God for Democrats. Thank God we want better things for ourselves and our posterity. Thank God we have the courage to make them happen against impossible odds. Thank God we do not give up.

Why cannot we take a few minutes to rejoice?  There have been so few victories of any kind over the last ten years. Look, our enemies are vanquished. It must be true because Josh says it is so.  It's pretty much over.

The repubs weep like little girls. They cast forth silly nonsense about how this legislation shall bring down the Democratic Party in November. They spew out silly nonsense that the new laws promulgated by both Houses of Congress shall one day be stricken from the books. They curse the majority for doing its duty to its constituency and to all Americans.

"There will be no cooperation for the rest of the year," McCain said during an interview Monday on an Arizona radio affiliate. "They have poisoned the well in what they've done and how they've done it."

"In my opinion, the institution of the Congress has been fundamentally harmed," Sen. Judd Gregg (R-N.H.), pointing to the process Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) used to craft the final  health bill.

    THESE ARE THE DAYS

    These are days you'll remember
Never before and never since, I promise
Will the whole world be warm as this
    And as you feel it,
    You'll know it's true
That you are blessed and lucky
    It's true that you
    Are touched by something
That will grow and bloom in you

These are days that you'll remember

When May is rushing over you
With desire to be part of the miracles
    You see in every hour
    You'll know it's true
That you are blessed and lucky
It's true that you are touched
By something that will grow and bloom in you

    These are days

These are the days you might fill
    With laughter until you break
    These days you might feel
    A shaft of light
Make its way across your face
    And when you do
Then you'll know how it was meant to be
See the signs and know their meaning
    It's true
Then you'll know how it was meant to be
Hear the signs and know they're speaking
    To you, to you

Merlin tells us that we must savor the moment.

Following the great battle at Badon, King Arthur's
coalition meets on top of the hill overlooking the
carnage, torches blazing. Cheering, the soldiers
are feeling their adrenaline and their oats and...

Merlin swings his burning staff into a wide arc.
The knights back away, amused at first,
    then a bit afraid.

The knights have fallen back. Merlin stalks
past each man,and Arthur too, holding the
flaming tip of his staff before each pair
of eyes, and staring into them with his
    gimlet gaze:

    MERLIN

Stand back. Be silent. Be still. That's it.
And look upon this moment-- savor it.
Rejoice with great gladness, great gladness
remember it always for you are joined by it.
You are one under the stars; for you are
joined by it under the stars.  Remember it
well then, this night; this great victory.
So that in the years ahead you can say I
was there that night with Arthur, the king
    .
For it is the doom of men that they forget.
