The Bishop and the Butterfly: Murder, Politics, and the End of the Jazz Age

Why are 'Flying Monkey' attacks condoned as "Politics as usual"?

I've just spent an hour and a half watching the folks on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" talk about Obama's problems with the "Flying Monkey" attacks from the McCain camp.

What's got me into the upper levels of rage, is that instead of spending the hour focused on how despicable and shameful the attacks are, they spent the time over-analyzing Obama's "failure to respond", or should I say, "his inadequate responses", comparing it to every Democratic response to sleazy GOP attacks in the past.

The galling thing is that, while everyone quietly admits the tactics are loathesome, they very quickly move on to how inadequate Obama's response has been, and concentrate completely on what he should be doing instead, as if to say, "Well, these kinds of attacks are to be expected", i.e., "All's fair in politics".

Well, I'm sorry, but that's a load of crap.

The MSM has completely focused on whether or not Obama has risen to some 'proper' level of response, as if this is some sort of parlour game, instead of an election in which people's lives are at stake. Hell, our country's future is at stake.  Their focus on what Obama should be doing, naturally plays right in the GOP playbook. WTF?!

I understand that it's just television, and their wanting to 'make a race of it' for the sake of ratings, and how injecting "drama" into the campaign, gets people more interested in watching, but isn't it time that we, as a nation, (not as Democrats or Republicans), but as one nation of Americans, rise up and say what Obama has said, "ENOUGH".

Of course, Republicans will only smile, and chuckle to themselves about how what McCain is doing is working and why should they stop doing what they're doing.  But honestly Mr. and Mrs Republican, aren't you even the least bit ashamed?

To which I'm sure the GOPers out there would reply, 'Why should we stop doing what's working?'  I'll tell you why; It's ruining the country, that's why.  This whole 'divide the country in a way where WE get 51%' approach to politics is one of the reasons we are where we are now. This country is deteriorating day after dismal day, because the Karl Rove-Lee Atwater 'divide the country' approach has put us into two completely isolated camps, surrounded by philosophical barbed wire and no-one wants to give an inch in order to work with the other side. We're not debating issues, we're playing "I need to get just enough votes to dominate you and enforce my opinions on you in any way that I can ..."

Is that really what the founding fathers had in mind?

Obviously, when McCain's minions parrot "Change" they are not referring to the manner in which they view the political process. If they wanted real change, they wouldn't keep trying to divide us, they'd try to convince us of their views on the issues, not fake a lot of outrage about Mrs. Palin's owning the rights to the word, "Lipstick".   But that's because they'd rather win an election that give America what it deserves, an honest debate on the issues.

I guess what I'm saying is, Why doesn't the GOP love America?  (Okay, that was meant as a joke... sort of.)

Sorry for the rant, but this ridiculous TV coverage has just been getting me rather worked up lately.
