President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden arrived at the US Capitol late Tuesday night to pay their respects to fallen US Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick, whose remains are lying in honor in the building's famous Rotunda, less than four weeks after he died after responding to the riot that erupted in the building.
In an appearance lasting a few minutes, the President and first lady entered the Rotunda, where several US Capitol police officers were stationed including two officers flanking Sicknick's remains.
Biden placed his hand on the table displaying Sicknick's remains before he and the first lady each placed their hands over their hearts and Biden crossed himself. The Bidens then stood in front of memorial wreaths before again placing their hands over their hearts and exiting the Rotunda.
The somber ceremonial arrival began at 9:30 p.m. ET on Tuesday at the East Front of the Capitol with Sicknick's remains arriving in a hearse. A Capitol Police officer carried the box containing his remains up the steps as police officers stood at attention outside the building that had been ransacked by insurrectionists almost a month before.
The viewing for Sicknick began at 10 p.m. and was set to last overnight. A ceremony is set to take place on Wednesday [....].
Comments
Note the link includes a video segment from Cuomo Prime Time which is showing live footage from the event Tues. evening while discussing Nothing more traumatic': Former cop on Capitol police officer's death.
This evening's ceremony limited attendance to the force itself and the family; the congressional event will be during the day. That the Biden's showed their respects this evening is basically "support the troops" message. As was his earlier video message today about the FBI deaths and injury this morning.
I predict you will no longer hear anti-police talk like this from Democrats, especially about about Jan. 6, like several pieces on this thread THE UNBEARABLE WHITENESS OF THE CAPITOL MOB and especially not from Biden, how the Capitol Police were complicit, and how if it were blacks they would have shot them all. That meme has certainly totally disappeared from CNN and MSNBC. I watched Rachel Maddow a bit, it was very pro-police as well.
I'd be willing to bet you are not going to see any Dem congresspersons on Weds. wear their kente cloth stoles in support of BLM.
I will be surprised if Jan. 6 will now forever have a meme of the U.S. Congress and U.S. democracy and rule of law vs. the Trump Insurgents who are anti-cop. And the Capitol Hill Police will be the defending martyrs. Going forward you are going to see less and less of the meme of "the police are the enemy of the people" on any liberal MSm. And you will see the Dem party increasingly in support of "law and order" and police and increasingly GOP will become the party of libertarians for self-defense militias and more talk about how all police authorities are thugs and part of the Deep State. Any sympathizers of the Trump insurgency within military and police forces are currently being purged or at least they have to hide their sympathies.
After all, there are a lot of police now that are black and other P.O.C. and they have been silent until now. And there are black and p.o.c. congresspersons who are grateful that the Capitol Police were there.

Joy Reid already on board with this new meme on Feb. 1 to kick off Black History Month:
by artappraiser on Wed, 02/03/2021 - 2:25am
Reid praises the officer who directed the rioters away from members of Congress
She also criticized the double standard in treatment of the MAGA crowd and BLM protesters by the police

We will see if Reid ignores the next killing of an unarmed Black man by police.

New DA punts Rayshard case
More proof it's dangerous and less than judicial to carry out court matters in the popular press - another version of "trial by hanging" or talking head.
Sure, it scratches the public's itch, but there's a real danger the public misinterprets or gets spoonfed a misleading narrative.
It helps in this case that the new DA's a black female - otherwise a white DA would be accused if racism no doubt. As it is, the prior DA was in way too much hurry to file charges, and it tarnished their credibility.

The prior DA used the case in a video
The public was not involved in that decision
A DA in Durham accused Duke lacrosse players of rape
Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton heard the word stripper and waited for more evidence
Those public trials were DA initiated
Most people recognize the need for police
Most people are not willing to trade the need for police with overlooking police abuse
Joy Reid praised a brave police officer
Joy Reid also pointed out the differences in the treatment of the MAGA crowd and BLM protesters
There were clear differences in how BLM members and MAGA members were treated in DC
Regarding the race of the DA, Daniel Cameron, a Black AG, handled the Breonna Taylor case
Cameron is being sued by jurors for not presenting them with the full evidence
The race of the DA is not a factor

You put up a post about a DA punting a case. The case mentioned the race of the DA
I responded that Daniel Cameron was Black and faced criticism because of his actions as DA
I could also mention that Kamala Harris did not receive full, support because of her history as AG
You entered race into the discussion
I posted about Joy Reid praising a Capitol police officer and criticizing the Capitol police department
You posted about a DA punting a case in Atlanta
My response to your post was as responsive as your post was to mine.

DA Pennebaker I said - best DA of all.
Of course The Police sang DA-DOO-DOO-DOO DUH-DA-DA-DA, quite some time ago. Seems like a message in a bottle by now - what could it mean? Maybe ask Roxanne. With FDA approval, of course.

On point, you got it More proof it's dangerous and less than judicial to carry out court matters in the popular press - another version of "trial by hanging" or talking head. EXCEPT it's not even that what we've been doing during the Trump era, rather it's trial by citizen cell phone video and social media.
Biden's not going to fall for that, comes to mind he had to go through it once, one of the major pre-cell-phone examples with what happens when you do that, with the infamous "high tech lynching" accusations of Clarence Thomas and all.
I notice the trend of media and the more responsible on social media coming round to that, i.e.
Many people sought to identify her online (and sometimes got it wrong—a reminder of the importance of seeking confirmation from a news outlet or law enforcement)....

I don't think Biden Democrats aren't going to go with the whole meme anymore BECAUSE: a judgmental mob mis-informed by online tribal narratives was doing exactly that when they stormed the Capitol trying to stop the theft of the election. Likewise Congressional Dems and Pence got the same message real strong when the mob came hunting for them. Wait for the (reformed, not stacked tor a narrative) legal process after the cell phone video before you start marching is going to be the new hot thing. While waiting it's gonna be: opinions are like assholes, everyone's got one but to be taken seriously you actually have to be doing your jury duty. No more mob justice. I can totally see Biden and Harris and Pelosi and Schumer and say: the system will judge who is a Karen and who is not.
Overall meme: I didn't notice anyone take a knee when Lady Gaga sang the national anthem at Biden's inauguration, did you?

meanwhile, here's two lefty scholars arguing in The Atlantic that the defund/abolish concept might well be applied to right wing extremists as well as black lives
(I feel that their argument is slightly anarchist in that they more confidence in the ability of close, small near communities to do civilization best rather than big gummint. And I suspect one issue of naivete with them: they don't know the nightmare that small towns can become.)
The Democrats will never go there, they are the big gummint party and they struggle with many libertarian issues. Law and order and everything that goes with that fits with them better. This is also why the left anarchists in Portland chant "fuck joe biden" and attack the DNC office...

So romantic, also all American, just like Thorton Wilder's "Our Town" Or Otis in Mayberry, who doesn't even need a social worker to tell him to lock himself in the town jail every night. Everything's hunky dory until you give Barney Fife a badge and a handgun.

Yeah, we aren't going to hear criticism of the police (snark)

the meme just reiterated less than a hour ago by official presidential tweet,
carefully crafted lingo, speech writers prolly doing an all nighter
hero who died in the line of duty defending our democracy and the citadel of liberty itself.
I think the "liberty" word is an especially good choice...after fighting for liberty the founders thought up this clever democratic system where liberty is actually protected by everybody following the agreed-upon rules; take that would-be rioters, revolution never again

I have no problem honoring Brian Sicknick
I have no problem with the Eugene Goodman promotion.
This has absolutely nothing to do with the police officers who participated in the riot
It has nothing to do with concerns about police who are friendly with the Proud Boys
It has nothing to do with the fact that current and former police officers belong to the Oath Keepers
There will be ongoing criticism of the actions of police officers and police departments.
The terror would come if people aren't willing to take a knee or criticize.
