When Ferguson, Missouri erupted after the killing of Michael Brown we understood the frustration of the populace. There had been years of the judicial system using black residents as an ATM. Brown's body was left to cook in the street for hours. The mayor and sheriff seemed dismissive. After being in the spotlight, there were much needed changes to the abusive and extortionist behavior of the legal system The result of the run rest and battle to change the way justice was dispensed was sure to be a more aware and politically engaged citizenry. Wrong! The incompetent Republican mayor came up for reelection and Ferguson, a town that is 70% black, put him back in office. This occurred despite a Democratic opponent running against the failed mayor. Most discouraging of all was that only about 15% of the town's eligible voters went to the polls!
The Ferguson voters knew how pathetic the mayor had been. They knew there was a City Council member running against the mayor, yet they failed to vote. Perhaps they had not heard that Trump had been elected President. Perhaps they were unaware that Jeff Sessions was the new Attorney General. Perhaps they were unaware that Sessions wanted to roll back DOJ intervention in police abuse cases. Perhaps there lives were busy with other things. Enjoy your new mayor, same as the old mayor. If you can't be bothered to get out and vote after the trauma the community suffered, there is not a lot that outsiders can do to change things. This is simply disappointing.

Kudos to Johnson for doing this story. It's brave and hopefully should get him followers rather than the other way around; not being afraid to broadcast inconvenient truth.

Voters have to live up to their part of the bargain.
