just so you know if you see it discussed, this is where it's coming from; I also see other similar organizations working with them on this, like detentionwatchnetwork.org

It's definitely smart of them to use the Covid spread factor right now as an opportunity to add an extra push.
BUT the problem, though, for Biden is that pressuring Biden on this right now instead of later is tough for him, because "tough on immigration" is not just a Trumpie thing--tho it IS one of the main things that won Trump a lot of votes-it's one of those issues that crosses party lines in strange ways-especially in times of high unemployment and economic distress--plenty of Dem types, like unions, don't like "open borders" talk nor non-citizens getting any kind of government assistance, etc.

oops should throw in one recent shocker we had from the election, that there are many more from Hispanic-American citizen demographics, and not just from one or two groups, as many of us used tor presume, who like the "tough on immigration" stance

Geez . . .
Too bad there weren't any radicals painting the following on the walls in 1930 Germany and Poland.

"Free them all" would be political suicide. Whoever has fantasies of this should get a grip.
Trump judges would block it and it's Willie Horton MS-13 possibilities would lead Fox News for weeks.

Yeah, good point that some might Willie Horton it.
I rethunk it about the covid argument they are using too. In that it's not at all smart either if they are currently infected, if that is the case they need to be in quarantine, not "free". Epidemiologists don't care whether it was fair or not how you got infected, just that you did. Fair is for later for who survives.
Ok, move on, free and not inflected and not sick but with no papers. How the hell are they supposed to get health care in a pandemic without papers? In NYC, they are having a hard time with the homeless even though they are priority for vaccination. A lot of them don't carry around smartphones and sign up for health dept. texts, I suspect it might be the same situation with these detainees?

also then that made me think about the current caravan. Peracles said his instinct would be to let them in. BUT who is going to pay for their COVID tests at the border, and care for those who test positive. I'd venture not that many American taxpayers would say: sure, and order 8,000 more vaccines while you're ordering some, Joe.
by artappraiser on Tue, 01/26/2021 - 7:25pm
yeah, as far as the caravan, while coming from the same continent, I would thin it's no way Jose, not right now, you stay where you are unless you got the money to pay you got a negative covid test today and you have money for 7 days at a hotel
All Travelers to U.S. Will Need to Quarantine and Show Negative COVID Test Result
this is not the time for this, we're in a mess where the previous administration hid that enough vaccines weren't ordered, now we are delayed while more full citizens die. Unless they want to be be livein home health care workers willing to die too?

Half serious - if they can hike 1000 miles, good candidates for work permits, no?
by PeraclesPlease on Tue, 01/26/2021 - 7:55pm
Wholly nonsense. There's likely tens of millions who would hike a thousand or even a few thousand miles to get to America if that was the criterion for a work permit.
by ocean-kat on Tue, 01/26/2021 - 9:24pm
As I said, "half serious". The implication was those willing and able to take on such a journey might likely be good hard-working citizens, not that I wholly believe that - a one-shot feat doesn't equal morals & ethics nor longer-term endurance or useful contributions.
