Watch for 5 minutes, any 5 minutes, you'll come away convinced the people would never willingly give up their monarchy:

emphasizes the reality of it not at all being the empire it once was

At least didn't claim it was a Spice Girl (or perhaps that was part of the anger)

It was curious to see our current age as "mechanistic", a term from the 1790s but some accuracy today - Machine learning will solve all?s
Also, "Charles knows who Wendell Berry is?" counterculture in the 80s. If you think back to his MTV-like marriage, it must have been tough.

I always thought of Charles as a fuddy duddy goofball and that surely after the Queen is gone the people would go: why are we hanging on to this? I see now I was wrong on the latter, he might be a fuddy duddy but he's their fuddy duddy and they're sticking to that.
The royal family is their identity, if they want to diss them is ok, but not something for outsiders to get. The rituals are their pride - rightly so, mho - with major tourist money incoming for surprisingly small outlay comparatively. They don't need the empire, they got the rituals.
We rejected the royal thing at the getgo, so we just replace it with glorifying a president & family or some other celeb. That part, it's human nature, not everybody's got that trait but the majority does.
Yeah the mechanistic thing is interesting...

I thought I remembered Charles with a mohawked punk & safety pins, but this is the best i could find. Still, i respect his curiosity, fuddy-duddy it not
