Orion, get a grip. It's one shooting scene of maybe 1000 this year. Most of them police are going in and handling things. Except Portland and Seattle where they're locked out - good luck. Looking for the outlier and acting like it's the norm will fill a thousand diaries. Do you have kids in school? Are you a teacher? Are you a cop? So you're not even involved in this scene "protecting ourselves and those we love". A 20-year off-duty female cop shot up a gun-brandishing idiot who was terrorizing some women and kids the other day, shot his was out. Is that you having to "protect ourselves"? Thought not.
