If the Republicans had contented themselves with blocking only one of Obama's nominees for that Washington appeals court they'd have gotten away with it. By blocking all three they went too far. And, given the number of vacancies, put Obama in a position to appoint enough new judges to make a significant improvement in how our laws are interpreted.

If you use a device too much beyond its designed capacity, it will break down.

The Republicans look smart in their control of message as a party but not so smart when they use something they will need later until it is broken.

Where is the spreadsheet that explains how they spread their risk?

If they are the masters of their own fate, they are doing a good job of not looking like it.

They thought obstruction and voter suppression would put them back in power.  Even the congressional Democrats thought the Republicans could take over the Senate in 2015.  I follow the cross tabs in polls and the Republicans are not in good shape to take over the Senate.  They did the right thing to end the obstruction game on appointments. They should be able to get quite a lot done on appointments in 2014 so they are then ready to pass legislation if the House flips in the next election.
