I figure this recommendation requires starting another thread on what happened with the Capitol Police. If I don't give its own post, someone else would.

Those soldiers appear to have rifles loaded with blanks, for whatever that is worth if it is actually the case. Notice the cross shaped extensions on the rifle barrels. Those appear, though I cannot be sure, to be suppressors which insert into the barrel so as to offer enough resistance to the blanks gas because they have a smaller powder load than a standard bullet. This is to operate the automatic feed of the next round. A standard bullet cannot be fired with a blank suppressor in place.

Nope, with a couple other things but never with either end of a carbine. But, if it came to a confrontation I would much rather someone swing a gun at me than shoot me with it. My comment was just to say what I think the tactical situation was, not to make any judgment about it.

I found the description interesting, thanx. And better to be the butt of a joke than meet the butt of a gun. Even if the business end not a barrel of laughs.

Data?
Don't need no stinking data.
Authorities are more than twice as likely to break up a left-wing protest than a right-wing protest?

My opinion, Washington Post's "what happened?" is the best on topic I have read so far:
Doh! Why didn't I check the pros from Dover earlier? They've only been covering D.C. since 1877.
