Gambled big time on popular narrative for ratings and lost in the worst way possible. More like him coming down the pipeline, no doubt. (More's the pity for the rest of us as to accessing heath care; I've been trying that lately and even the best really suck as they are so burned out they don't really care about your quality of life as long as you're alive, they want a vacation, it's really a damn scary situation for anyone with other medical problems.)

Italy and France apparently have had just about enough of his kind of shit. New rule is gonna be: unvaccinnated will have the "choice" of not being able to go anywhere or do anything, while everyone vaccinnated get freedom of movement and activity.
Freedom of choice! Sooner or later I can foresee cell phone apps for essential workers, basically marking certain residences as no-go pariahs...

Just got back from a long awaited visit to my parents in Florida. They watch the local fox news channel as well as CNN. The local fox channel is all pro-vaccine all the time. No doubt Hannity and Carlson or other national fox pundits are still feeding the morons the conspiracy theories but not the local news. Just some info for those who might not watch it.

Conservative leaders and Evanglical leaders have to push a pro-vaccine message.
The message that this is not a repeat of the Tuskeegee experiment has to be spread.
Publicity about COVID death rates seems to be driving some to get vaccinated.

Are black people so stupid they're stuck thinking it's 90 years ago when black poverty was over 50% and blacks were left out of New Deal programs, vs current days when poverty's around 15%, they receive 20-30% of all benefits disbursed from welfare programs, 15% of blacks being part of some welfare?
Are they unable to tell the difference between a Depression-era program *in the deep South* during age of Jim Crow (before WWII liberalization of blacks in the military) that affected 400 men and families, vs a modern DC-led health effort to benefit nearly 40 million blacks when there's a black VP, a black surgeon general, and was recently a black president, numerous black mayors (including most large cities?), lots of black multimillionaires, many more black doctors, transparently offering the same vaccine as 200 million whites and other ethnic groups get?
And why are 400 men left untreated 80-90 years ago more traumatic than 300+ blacks murdered/shot to death every year in multiple cities across the US in current times?

The Tuskeegee experiment is a shortcut for the long term disgust many in the Black community has for he health care industry. That distrust continues to the present. The distrust reflects the disrespect many feel from the treatment they receive today.

FFS, if you start every article with a discourse on medical treatment under slavery 200 years ago and a Tuskegee experiment gone bad 80-90 years ago, you might as well just grab a ballpeen hammer and hotiron tongs and terrorize them. Why don't we start white medical stories with bits about bloodletting leeches in the Middle Ages, dentists double timing as doctors through vast stretches of history, and the rash of deformed Thalidomide babies in the late 50's/early 60's. Then maybe whites would be afraid to go to doctors or undergo any normal modern medical precaution, right? I mean, medical technology never progresses, right? It's always 1830/1930 for black America, amirite?
These links you make are largely whiny-babyist approaches to discussing healthcare, all over the fucking place, except the observation of under-pain treatment, which maybe the industry can simply prominently publicly search for a solution? (is it really white doctors out to torture black patients? Obviously opioids are a concern now, but i take it this has been around since beforee opioid alerts. An Asian dentist tried to fill my wife's cavity w/o any novacaine/ether about 20 years ago - seemed to not be personal, just how they did things.)

A schoolteacher murdered my great-grandfather 100+ years ago. Me being afraid of schools is nothing short of neurotic absent any real related threats in the meantime. I mean, in the Middle Ages they suckered kids into the "Children's Crusade", similar to the Pied Piper of Hamelin. How long will black pipple be afraid of flutes, keep kids from music performances, and will we keep calling it "racism" even though it's long past justified? There are real dangers out in the world, and of course if you're participating in a medical study pay attention to the details and people running it, but carrying excessive fear of doctors because there was a horrid event back when the Joads were fleeing the Dust Bowl hit around the time radio was a "new invention" and 90% of the country lived on farms, bars were still called "speak easies", when our medicine was so primitive we hadn't even progressed with penicillin far enough to cure the clap, when Hitler hadn't yet made himself Chancellor, when most people didn't have cars, and more Southerners got their news from church than newspapers, when very few people went to college - very rarely black people - well damn, that's a long time ago. Stay stuck in the past.

In 1930 only 19% of black 14-17 year olds in the South went to school, usually for them only 2-3 months a year. Even for whites nationally college graduation was only 16% men, 8% women. So you're saying a modern largely educated black populace should act as scared as a bunch of scared, traumatized sharecroppers back in Hoover town depression as 90 years later? Progress indeed. The son of a family friend, lost a son to COVID. The son was a Black Trump supporter who believed that COVID was a hoax. There are a variety of reasons that Black people refuse the vaccine. The mistrust created by the Tuskegee experiment is one factor. Current mistreatment by medical providers is another source.

Too weird - you post a link whining how providers give blacks worse care, yet for a pandemic we've known hits blacks worse for 1 1/2 years it takes a special push to get them to self-protect in the face of thousands facing likely death, supposedly because of an 80-90 year old malfeasance that affected 400?
Check out those figures. It's the likely death that's most important, one would think, not some gloating over the last 2 weeks.
https://www.kff.org/coronavirus-covid-19/issue-brief/latest-data-on-covi...
If you click "Black" and "% of deaths" the % of black vaccinations is *significantly* less than % of deaths in almost all cases, say 45 states. Where's the self-preservation?
Now i could assume the local authorities in Mississippi made things worse for blacks like they do for Black Belt Alabama voters, but not sure if that assumption's always valid here, and likely doesn't apply to DC.

yeah Kaiser is keeping track of vaccinations by race/ethnicity, it's far from a big secret and I dare say they are a more trusted outfit for health care facts than any of our government institutions. Here's their latest report
Latest Data on COVID-19 Vaccinations by Race/Ethnicity
Published: Aug 04, 2021
Futhermore bringing up Tuskegee as a reason for anti-vax sentiment is basically ABSURD & RIDICULOUS because as they note in this Aug. 4 report and anyone with any interest in the issue even pre-covid knows, strident anti-vaxxers don't trust vaccinations BECAUSE THEY DON'T TRUST VACCINATIONS DOH, this is not something exclusive to race, it's exclusive to those who don't trust vaccines, around the world
Most Unvaccinated Adults See the Vaccines as a Greater Health Risk than COVID-19 Itself
i.e., anti-vaxxers rather see their kid get immunity from actually having measles because they don't trust MMR vaccines, think they cause autism or some such
by artappraiser on Mon, 08/09/2021 - 7:33am
Your first paragraph is nonsense. If Blacks receive worse health care, why would they trust they health care system now? The Commonwealth Fund article noted the poor health care received today. The CDC and AMA, among others, are addressing current systemic racism. The mistrust is no big surprise. Thankfully, you and your buddies can only rant here on dagblog and don't come near patients.
by rmrd0000 on Mon, 08/09/2021 - 8:25am
Cuz it's your stupid propaganda - like everything's based on "Medical Apartheid" crap, which is like saying white people should treat Larry Nasser as the norm for white health care. When do you ever stop spinning shit?
Black people go to doctors, get treatment, have kids, etc. Maybe they're not getting the absolute best - part of healthcare is based on wealth, part is based on zipcode and friends of friends, and which health plan your employer has, and certainly there will be bias in some places. But it's not the fucking Titanic like you make it out to be, unless you're dirt poor, in which case it might be, duh- thus Obamacare or its relative promise but not quite success. Black kids are overall not getting so many deadly childhood diseases like in the 30's Great Depression - did someone forget to inform the Racist Board that rules America that vaccines are a scourge to black people especially children? Are blacks getting so little treatment for cancer and leukemia and Parkinson's and what-not?
But here's a tip - if you're gushing blood from your leg, whether you're white, black, pink, polka dotted - apply a fucking tourniquet or the closest imitation, and don't fucking wait for the cavalry or racial justice/"equity" or whatever other bullshit term or activist org to come save you - you just gotta do it yourself, your life, your health, basic responsibility. Same with vaccines or other treatments. Use as much medical knowledge we have, and use common sense elsewhere. That's it. Do that and it's hard for racism to win.
by PeraclesPlease on Mon, 08/09/2021 - 10:01am
The racism problem is systemic. CDC, AMA, and medical specialties recognize and are dealing with that fact. It is not my propaganda. Rant away. I'm laughing.
Edit to add:
Medical organizations realize the current mistrust. The mistrust leads people to be suspicious of vaccine recommendations. Activists and medical organizations are addressing the vaccine mistrust. Medical organizations are coming to grips with the systemic racism that fuels the mistrust. You can disagree, but the work goes on.
by rmrd0000 on Mon, 08/09/2021 - 11:12am
Seems the CDC didn't quite "recognize" and "deal with" the lack of black citizens willing to get vaccinated in very timely fashion, at least to avoid quite a large number of deaths. Perhaps instead of a "systemic racism response" they just need better marketing?
by PeraclesPlease on Mon, 08/09/2021 - 2:08pm
There were health disparities caused by systemic racism that put minorities at greater risk of death pre-vaccine as noted by Dr. Fauci.

The job now is to continue pushing people to get vaccinations to prevent future flares or mutations.
by rmrd0000 on Mon, 08/09/2021 - 2:42pm

I'm sick of his shit I'd like to be blunt; forget even that kinda shit, he's like full of denial-as-a-river-in-Egypt propaganda from sources like The Root.
CDC was collecting the figures from health "equity" research already in 2017,
All the best health care in the world isn't going to matter much comparatively and the situation is worse now!
All the rest is just idle talk, distracting nonsense, especially with covid now, silly to even talk about it until you get these other numbers down. FOR CHRISAKE if you want to talk staying in racial tribes you can't even procreate if all your young males are dead. Talking health care is nonsense if your procreaters are dead from homicide! It's just absurd crap. You don't need health care of any kind if you're dead, what difference would it make, why are they even bothering studying it until the violence goes down, not up?
by artappraiser on Tue, 08/10/2021 - 11:02am
you're wasting your time arguing about it, PP, his "news" is like a year late and much more than a dollar short.
Maybe woke politicians are still talking that way but someone forgot to tell them there aren't going to be anyone but P.A.'S tending to that care somebody is supposedly still researching, at hefty bribery style salaries at that.
NOBODY of any skin color nor nationality is gonna get "decent" health care even as we once knew it for the foreseeable future, unless they are willing to pay big bucks out of pocket retainer for a concierge doc. There's going to be a lot of long-term covid symptom sufferers and fewer providers who give a damn much about them much less diabetes, heart disease and cancer patients:
Sure they'll patch up those gunshot wounds in the ER, triage style, could take 24 hrs or so to get to ya, but they'll do that and send you home on crutches, the rest, like therapy & healing will be up to you
And basic in home care, ew boy fuggedaboutit unless you are willing to pay more bucks than the local grocer or bring in illegals from god knows where...
Don't believe me, access some of the best specialists at the best hospitals in the country using Medicare and a full supplemental right now like I have, see what ya get compared to pre-covid, no matter color of skin, you''ll get 5 minutes of their time and then it's buh bye hope you feel better, the pain aint so bad is it, really. See ya in another six months for another 5 minutes, meantime trying googling and eating healthy, and don't forget to wear a mask and get all your vaccines at the CVS cause we ain't got no time for flu or shingles patients...arthritis? try grannie's rheumatism meds if it bothers you like they used to...
this pandemic ain't a joke, there's going to be a new normal in health care and it is not going to look anything like it used to anywhere else except on rich people's yachts.

you don't really get it at all, it's too late. of course more people vaccinated will help a little but it's too late concerning the delta variant. there is no pretty picture ahead, too many people waited too long and unless we are going to enforce strict lockdown and masking on the unvaccinated like France and Italy IMMEDIATELY we will therefore be fucked for a very long time as far as the health care system is concerned.
FORGET your concerns about minority health, that's going to go on the back burner along with everyone else. People are going to get the variants and spread them. Covid variants are going to cause new waves
read the David Wallace Wells piece or many others. It's too late to avoid several new waves, not without strict lockdown right now for those unvaccinated at this point. And constantly testing them. And we aren't doing that. Sure individuals can still save themselves but our health care system is fucked. Infections are going up everywhere, even in states like NY. Many more people should have been vaccinated by now to avoid this, and also instituting vaccine passports nationally and indoor mask wearing, but we don't have that. So the health care system is going to deal with waves. It's not magic anytime you want, it was urgent and we didn't do it and now there will be devastating variants.
This was not a "I'm going to take my time and see how it works with others kinda vaccine", wasn't going to work that way. The people not doing it until now fucked our health care system

Children's hospitals are swamped with Covid patients — and it may only get worse
Nearly 1,600 kids with Covid-19 were hospitalized last week, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention — a new seven-day record and a 27 percent increase from the week before.

what a surprise - NOT - new 2020 census figures say 36.4% of Mississippi residents declared themselves non-hispanic Black or Afro-American
good luck folks, you should be so grateful that the Feds have decided to help your sorry assed health care system from totally collapsing under the weight of the the huge number of non-vaccinated catching the new horrendous delta variant and perhaps others as well...
count me as unsurprised if we find out later that a large number of idiot non-vaccinated in that state both black and white while wlling to be baptized in the river as "christians" and have been following the advice of their pastor that vaccination is the mark of the beast or some such (I have my own prejudices, you see--prove them wrong)

57% of the COVID unvaccinated are white.

Mistrust of current treatment received by Black patients is a major factor in vaccine. The past history of mistreatment by health care professionals also plays a role.

What a stupid fucking article. Doctors ignore fucking *everyone*. It's not racism - it's a shitty healthcare system. And making it all about race just hurts people who need to get off their butts and go deal with a fucked up system like whites do every day. With nearly half the unvaccinated non-white, the black percentage of new vaccinations should be 20% or more. And yet another whiny baby article, this time from PBS. Hawk, spit.

but wait, pp.here's a twitter thread about unfair racist medical treatment
OOPS NO IT'S ABOUT JAPANESE IN JAPAN:
I am starting to conclude after several years reading rmrd that being stuck in a bubble is too kind a description, it's more like he's been stuck somewhere in the U.S. where it's still basically 1968, doesn't get out much and seeks out reading that confirm this alternate reality from the past.
Always been curious that no matter how many times challenged, will give not even a hint of where he's physically located while everyone else here has willingly shared that information including many past members. It's part of the benefit of using pseudonyms.
by artappraiser on Thu, 08/12/2021 - 4:22am
here's a white American husband super pissed that his white wife with stage 4 breast cancer is being discharged too way early without adequate care because assholes who never got around to geting vaccinated are using all the resources:
when he talks about sticking to your guns and staying home if you got covid and never trusted the vaccine, that would include people who don't trust health care because of like "Tuskegee", he's saying: if you don't trust the system's vaccines, time to stick to your guns and not trust the hospitals either
Here's a whole site for Australians just pleased as punch with their hospital system:
Here's the way it works mostly all over the world now whatever fucking skin color you got: forget bedside manner, there ain't gonna be none, fight for every little bit of help you can get, and still verify with your own research cause "they" haven't the time to do anything but basic protocol for anyone's problem. There is basically survival of the mentally fittest for health care consumers now. If you don't care and won't fight for what you think you need, and ruthlessly so, they certainly won't either! (Two unless: if what you need saves them time or money; if you have all the money in the world to hire a concierge doctor on retainer and he/she has great connections.)
Oh and beware the opposite syndrome that I was just recently warned about by a fancy Mt. Sinai NY specialist (wait time for appts. with her is 4 months): don't be so super bitchy and angry and frustrated or they will get the impression that you will never be satisfied with whatever they can do for you, so they are just going to walk away from you as a patient from the getgo. That you have to please and interest them as a case, not the other way around. She was basically chastising me "for your own good"
And I am on Medicare now with a top tier supplemental policy. Hate to inform all you lefties but the big news in the big cities is that Medicare pays so little (like a 10th or less of the retail price, according to my documents) that more and more providers are deciding not to accept "Medicare assingment" every day. And one of the reasons so many elderly are going bankrupt is not just the shitty drug plans, but also that they just go anywhere without checking out whether all providers involved accept Medicare assigment. Cause if they don't (example: the anesthesologist attending your operation) patient is going to get massive bills.

Mistrust of the health care system is an important factor

The fucking sense of ENTITLEMENT of many in that article is unreal and I am sick of hearing it, including from the NYTimes. Does make me angry. Fuck you and die then at your parties where no one will tell who was shooting off guns...why should you get any health care at all?!!! Who said life was easy for people with other colors of skin, jesus h. christ. Ocean-kat was right, they sound no different than libertarian Trumpies and Qanon!!!
THIS IS WHY IMMIGRANTS END UP VOTING FOR REPUBLICANS LIKE ARNOLD who talks about responsibility and thankfulness about being a citizen, not expecting someone from government to prove to you they are not against you for chrissake.
I MYSELF AM SO VERY SICK OF HEARING THESE SELFISH KIND OF EXCUSES and delusions of victimhood. It really does seem time that such lazy ass sense of entitlement and idiocy means: NO FUCKING HEALTH CARE FOR YOU, NONE AT ALL, too late now. You are a day late and a dollar short, you had your chance, now you should not be allowed to go anywhere and you should suffer without help if you catch it.
Nobody of color in my neighborhood in the north Bronx was ever sitting around waiting for somebody to convince them its okay, do outreach to suspicious lazy asses, convince them, whatever., they took the subway or bus or access-a-ride-for-handicapped and went and stood in line in their hijabs and saris, latina babes, hood rats, or whatever from 9am to 9pm as soon as they were allowed.
Virtually everyone around here is still wearing masks to this day, never stopped, including their babies in strollers.
I was vaccinated at a huge event at Yankee stadium in March exclusively for Bronx residents. It was at a time when only over 65 + essential workers were being given shots. It had like 30 stations and long curving lines. I would estimate that both times I went only like 20% there were the older age group and the rest were much younger people! They were younger people of color who had waited with baited breath to be able to get vaccinated and showed up as soon as they qualified, they must have been essential workers. Anyone from the mostly black neighborhood surrounding the stadium would have to walk like a couple blocks for crying out loud, they could certainly make it to the shopping mall with the Target.next door all the fucking time
Self-centered, conspiracy-minded, entitled, delusional, used to a victimhood role, and living in a world where they stay as segregated to tribe as possible, that's what I see in that article, living on handouts while denouncing them as not trustworthy. Ocean-kat is correct to point out the similarlity! The black people in this article are not much different than Trump fans. Same damn attitude, nearly exactly the same. De Blasio and Cuomo supposed to come over to your project which you live in for virtually no rent and beg you on their hands and knees to get vaccinated or not and maybe you will, maybe you won't?
If your grandparents had thought that way you'd all still be dealing with the results of polio now! DISGUSTING stop being such whiny babies take responsibiltiy for your own life. Or gamble and lose, it's up to you
by artappraiser on Thu, 08/12/2021 - 1:16pm
Yamiche has the quote of the day from the White House, I think it's subtly targeted to exactly these kind of people:
Is actually repeating Scharwzenegger's point!
This is a fucking global war and you live in the richest country and have total free accessibility to the tool that will save you and your country and you just cannot make up your mind, they might be lying to you even though you aready get all kinds of government subsidies, you're special and you're going to wait until everyone else goes first and maybe even more, maybe until Biden comes and begs you himself on bended knee!
Really people like that really do deserve to die first! After all, you obviously give a shit about this country, only care about yourself and then perhaps your tribe
It's simply too much to expect Public Health to beg, cajole, bribe, call a gaziillion times, offer to come to your apartment, give shots on your corner in bus at night hours? BUT WAIT, as soon as your employer requires it, then you''ll do it? SO IT'S REALLY ABOUT MONEY FOR YOU, HUH. that's it? Show you the money or you are not going to be on the team of saving everyone. Self-centered tribal shit, incredible
by artappraiser on Thu, 08/12/2021 - 1:39pm
Activists and doctors are working to address the mistrust and actually get people to accept the vaccinations.
All you are doing is standing on the lawn yelling.
As I said, it is good that you have no input to actual medical decisions.
by rmrd0000 on Thu, 08/12/2021 - 2:21pm
no I am not yelling on the lawn, I am very specifically
agreeing with those who say it's too late to change your mind now and it's a pandemic where scarce resources now need to be rationed worldwide
just like with Trumpies, black people who waited until now to do anything because of stupid idiotic beliefs should go at the bottom of the list for good medical care ON PURPOSE. LET THEM DIE, THEY HAD THEIR CHANCE TO BE TEAM PLAYERS AND NOW IT'S TOO LATE, they deserve only bottom of the barrel health care. Much of the pickle we are in now is THEIR DAMN FAULT. Fuck equity if you didn't get vaccinated, you are now worth less than a vaccinated human being.
It will actually make me very angry if I see a a single non-vaccinated person without good reason get the time of an decent doctor, an ICU or a ventilator
fuck your nut cases worried about vaccines, they all go to the bottom of the list for health care now! Will love to see that they finally learn a lesson. This is not a joke and it's not about individual freedoms, it's about saving the human race. This is war. Way worse than polio or AIDS Save the little kids who couldn't be vaccinated, they deserve ALL the attention.
Really fuck those selfish assholes you are making excuses for. Too late! Any "Activists" should be putting all energy to those who never had a chance at access.
Really you are being disgustingly racist about this, disgustingly. You don't get a mulligan here for skin color, you get to get sick or die, you had your chance. Just don't even bother talking about this anymore without expecting to be called out as being a fucking racist.
by artappraiser on Thu, 08/12/2021 - 2:57pm
it's just this simple: if you didn't trust the health care system enough to get vaccinated by now, now is not the time to all of a sudden start believing they might be useful and start demanding access! You access is denied until there is some relief from the pandemic. If you survive, you can try again in a few years after many of you and your Trumpie and Qanon friends die off and the health care systems are rejuvenated with new bodies.
Meantime, vaccinated cancer and diabetes patients etc. come before you do, even end stage alcoholics deserve more attention than you do if they got vaccinated.
Really if you are the kind who still needs to be begged and cajoled by "activists" to be vaccinated at this late date, you deserve zero professional health care, you're on your own. Activists should be spending their time on vaccinated people with needs, not your sorry stupid asses
Your own president told you to do so and you didn't You are no better than a traitor during a war! He's giving some of your unused vaccines away to 3rd world countries btw,...
there is nothing "fair" about this, a virus is stalking the human race not much different than if an alien race was trying to detroy all human beings. Its war, it's not time to bother with stupid "equity"issues
by artappraiser on Thu, 08/12/2021 - 3:28pm
Dan Rather has the exact right quote for your "black community" sub-culture (whatever that is) that mistrusts free vaccinations, which you seem to think needs "activists" and "outreach" and plenty of time til it's too late to get vaccinated:
And maybe also quit making excuses for young males killing each other while you're at it, that might help, the numbers there absolutely DWARF any harm done by police.
Again, I can see American heroes like Petty Office French rolling over in his grave at this childish crap being used for excuses. Is your position that all black people are idiot children who need guardians, is that it? Way to go.
If you don't like being an American citizen, there's plenty of others to take your place and you and your kind and the Trump anti-vaxxers that are your doppelgangers should think about trading places with people who really want to be here but aren't allowed.
How dare the woke dis people like the last surgeon general trying to get minorities to wise up and stop being babies, made me sick to my stomach, I'll never forget that big brouhaha over what the same kind of lectures whypipple listen humbly to from their doctors every day. But blacks are too sensitive for it and need some kinda tlc that's never going to come?

Tho Li's questioning is good, to be fair, it's dishonest to call vaccines "free" here as tax money has been paying for those and they have not been cheap and they are in the same boat of emergency use authorization, though vaccines have a heckuva lot more anecdotals now espec. as to containing spread
