This is a bit more conservative than likely the taste of many Dagbloggers. However, it's a pretty accurate portrayal of the declining communities that may not have bankrolled and funded the rise of Trump, but certainly yelled, smashed things and voted on his behalf.
There is an analogy made in the conversation to life on Indian reservations and I would go so far as to say the schizophrenia and nonsense nature of MAGA had a whole lot to do with the contrast of people who on one hand were taught that they are privileged and that being poor was for brown people and a lifestyle and situation that puts them where the people they once (and perhaps still) looked down upon once were.

The suggestion seems to be that a core of the problem of poverty is moral depravity. Gambling, porn, poor handling of finances are appear to be focuses. It sounds like Charles Murray analyzing poor whites and "Hillbilly Elegy".
Murray focused on IQ when analyzing the Black community. I think Williamson has a book about Detroit. I am not sure if the book focuses on the Black community or if he blames moral failures. Have you read the book about Detroit?

I don't know if gambling's so big, but drugs, petty crime, illiteracy/poor education, more kids than you can care for, on up to gangs and murders are all equalizers. Call this "moral failures" or just fucking up and not rising up. I don't even know what the point is. Many of the Trump voters are doing great. People just like complaining and feeling wronged. It's a poison for the soul.

It is funny, Murray, Vance, and Williamson all seem to use a variation on the theme of pulling yourself up by your own bootstraps. Poverty is a personal choice. The origins of the term actually meant attempting to perform an impossible task. Using bootstraps to lift yourself up was physically impossible.

"Rising up" means trying to get up off the ground, not perform miracles.

"Bootstrapping" for 50 or so years has meant a system that has just enough pieces to start up before it adds on the nonessential bits. So indeed, language changes, and most people don't have straps on their boots, nor riding crops, nor a bunch of other obsolete things. Amd societally, that "bootstrapping" can be a good metaphor - focus on just enough to get to the next level, not the home run/whole shebang. And even "fake it til you make it".

When you cut to the chase, there are first principles in the Bible. You have no autonomy. You must follow the Bible.
You just need the right people to guide you.
If you remember years ago there was a scandal where a group of Congressmen lived in the same house.
One Congressman had an affair with another man's wife. The Congressman did not have to repent because he was the "right" type of Christian. The others attempted to cover up the affair.

Just trust Ensign, Coburn, and Hawley, they will lead you on the path of righteousness for their name's sake.
