per u & OK: as I noted, just throwing this out there. I didn't think it hard to poke holes in the analogy - but analogies can be used to think, not to offer airtight logic. It's not unusual to have discussions re: how much people are responsible for their own health - do they exercise, do they eat right, do they stay out of dark alleys and not hang around with gang members, do they get regular checkups, did they pony up for the high care insurance...
and then there are other factors - are they genetically inclined towards a type of disease, does their income keep them from affording healthier options, are these physically not available, does their profession keep them from living more soundly, what other injuries or afflictions or responsibilities or psychological issues are mixed into their total human decision tree/baggage? At one point driving with 3 or 4 drinks was no big deal - it took MADD & other activitists to shut that down, though did it go too far or just right or not enough? It did coincide with intrusiveness by police officers - but so did the crack epidemic. (curiously, "crack babies" turned out to be largely fetal alcohol syndrome instead - turns out it's *better* for pregnant mothers to do crack than drink themselves silly (& their babies retarded) - do we owe crack mothers an apology? does anyone really expect that to happen?
When the Ivermectin hoohah storm started, I noted a doctor who was treating prisoners with Covid *BECAUSE THERE'S NO OTHER ACTUAL TREATMENT*. Presumably the doctor was evil for not making sure all prisoners were previously vaccinated (even before vaccines became available, presumably). And that it was the prisoners' fault for not getting vaccinated (even though the majority weren't convicted - only awaiting trial or plea or release). And even though the Pfizer vaccine is turning out to fade within say 5-6 months, it will continually be the stupid people who catch it and die/not die who are the laughing stocks. And when I mentioned that some Ivermectin studies seemed to have gone well, or that Ivermectin was useful for other diseases, left-wingers on social media just assumed I was anti-vaxx and so on (nope, got Pfizer as soon as it was available for me - though sounds like Pfizer has more problems than Moderna - but who would release *that* information early for informed decisions, rather than stomping over the trials data & giving participants boosters to make it impossible to see?]
I'm not saying there's no responsibility, but it's also too easy to take the heartless side - "all these idiots got what they had coming". Yes, many people are idiots. In past times we often tried to protect idiots from their own mistakes - 15-year-olds should not be having babies or overdosing on heroin or going to prison. Of course many people aren't much less idiotic by 21 or 25 or 45 or later. People make bad choices, they're fooled by bad information, and some things (like many details about the pandemic) aren't well known or are confusing. [Fauci was saying to not worry about masks back in March 2020 - how stupid was that? but such is the swaying of our political-health-idiocratical society]
