Welcome back to the Wild West! Get yourself a handgun if you don't have one already. Invest in stocks that manufacture cheap handguns and things like clothing and handbags and car shelves in cars that allow for easy access when carrying them.
There are so many ramifications, it's hard at first to realize them all. Things like: expect that when you are stopped by police when driving, the officer will approach with his gun drawn?....
Edit to add advice for the kids: this is why you take your vote for president very seriously. While a president may only last 4 years of your lifetime and probably has little direct impact on your life, the Supreme Court they appoint may impact your entire life. Voting for a spoiler candidate for president could haunt you for your entire life, up close and personally.

Are we about to see how people like everyone carrying on mass transit where they have no ability to run?
At least on a bus, the driver can see what's going on and stop and let everyone run. But on a train, everyone in a car is stuck with shooters. (And underground there is nowhere to go unless you're at a station.)

New York lawmakers pass bill limiting the concealed carry of firearms @ Twitter news events "Last night"
On Friday, New York state lawmakers voted to pass new gun laws that prohibit people from carrying concealed firearms in public settings considered “sensitive places,” such as colleges, hospitals, subways and parks, The New York Times and CNN report. The new law also lays out a strict licensing process to obtain a concealed-carry permit, requiring applicants to get more training and submit their social media accounts for review (!!!), according to CNN and Reuters. Last week, the Supreme Court struck down a law in the state requiring people to demonstrate “proper cause” to carry concealed firearms outside their homes.
