Close allies of Iran's president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, have been accused of using supernatural powers to further his policies amid an increasingly bitter power struggle between him and the country's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Several people said to be close to the president and his chief of staff, Esfandiar Rahim Mashaei, have been arrested in recent days and charged with being "magicians" and invoking djinns (spirits).

Ayandeh, an Iranian news website, described one of the arrested men, Abbas Ghaffari, as "a man with special skills in metaphysics and connections with the unknown worlds".

The arrests come amid a growing rift between Ahmadinejad and Khamenei which has prompted several MPs to call for the president to be impeached.

On Sunday, Ahmadinejad returned to his office after an 11-day walkout in an apparent protest over Khamenei's reinstatement of the intelligence minister, who the president had initially asked to resign...

Ahmadinejad's obsession with the hidden imam is well known. He often refers to him in his speeches and in 2009 said that he had documentary evidence that the US was trying to prevent Mahdi's return.

Ayatollah Mesbah Yazdi, a hardline cleric close to Khamenei, warned that disobeying the supreme leader – who has the ultimate power in Iran – is equivalent to "apostasy from God".

The first message I gleaned from this article kind of surprised me. I mean Christians and Muslims are looking forward to Armageddon.

I attempted to discover the Vatican's take on all of this End of Days stuff, but no representative of El Papa would return my calls. That does not surprise me since the local Mayor won't even return my calls concerning the giant pothole I fell in last month.

Besides the fact that Pat Robertson along with hundreds of Christian leaders have more in agreement with Muslim leaders than I do; I have decided that with 1.5 billion or more Christians on this planet along with 1.5 billion Muslims looking forward to the end of the world; it might be better if I left that half of the world's population alone.

The entire matter is out of my hands.

So I will let it go at that!

But just because half of the human race adheres to markings on ancient parchments with no proper provenance for explaining the workings of the universe, does not mean that certain 'sects' are totally devoid of good ideas.

Now we have had one heck of a time bringing thousands of those members of Wall Street management to justice.

THE SINS OF WALL STREET

As a direct consequence of these practices and the fraudulent sales of the mortgages to the public in the first place:

And of course, the giant mortgage/banking operations in this country take big bailouts after decimating the entire economy and pay no taxes.

So the Feds or the DA's in most states could simply file charges against Wall Street management for common law fraud, fraud as defined by state and Federal statutes, fraud on the courts both state and Federal, bribery of state and Federal officials, corporate pay practices in violation of shareholder rights protections provided in state and Federal statutes; violation of RICO statutes by entering into conspiracy with others to defraud the United States of America and I could go on and on and on....as I have many times.

And DA's across this nation? Well, there are burden of proof problems and there are evidentiary problems and there are problems with getting witnesses to rat on their cohorts and....

Okay. So how the hell did we incarcerate a million folks on drug charges?

So let us just take a deep breath and stand back from the painting so that we might better take in the entire message of the canvas before us!

Maybe the Imams and the religious zealots now attacking Mahmoud Ahmadinejad have a good idea?

Let us just indict all of Wall Street, all of the big banking institutions, all of the members of Wall Street management, all of the speculators who have sent the price of gas into the heights only achieved by Cheney five years ago, for something more concrete.
