Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak are trying to muster a majority in the cabinet in favor of military action against Iran, a senior Israeli official has said....Netanyahu and Barak recently persuaded Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman, who previously objected to attacking Iran, to support such a move

Which cabinet, Peres' or Obama's?

I am assuming a bit of snark in your question. Obama's cabinet, Obama himself, our State Department, and the weight of our public's aggregate opinion probably don't matter. But, the possibility of war with Iran and the desire for war with Iran by some who might have the power to make it happen is apparently taken very seriously in Israel and so there are voices being heard on both sides of the question in that country. I think that there will be little serious public discussion here unless and until Israel does attack. In the middle of a Presidential campaign there are serious things to spend time on like the idea of a flat tax that will absolutely not be put in place or whether the whacko Mormon religion is as legitimate as every other whacko religion, Christian or otherwise?
If Israel attacks Iran the the U.S. will unquestionably support them diplomatically and militarily if necessary. The only serious questions will be raised by the Republicans who will instantly declare that Obama is handling it wrong. If our support is only diplomatic they will say he should have sent in forces to help. If he sends in military help they will say he should have done more or done it sooner or done it differently.
Is the report in Haaretz enough to justify considering that an attack might be a real possibility and our leaders should be pressed as to their position on it or should I put my Chicken little costume away until next year?

I went googlin' the headline to see if it was drawing interest anywhere else. The Daily Caller is getting some feed back about this report. Damned discouraging reading, IMHO. These people probably vote. Free Republic comments are about the same. Reddit has a lot of feed back both pro and con.
From The Caller's first page of two, so far, with commenters handle removed:
Turn Iran into a sheet of glass Ben
Israel will do what the US refuses to do because our present White House occupant has neither the guts or the smarts to pull this off.
United States plans post-Iraq Persian Gulf troop build-up.
President Obama is encouraging Ben Netty, I think President Obama is a Jew. Most of the people he surrounds himself with are Jews. Most of his friends are Jews.
Most of his friends are Communists.
If Netanyahu and Israel decide to attack Iran, they should not tell or coordinate with the U.S. I would not trust Obama and this administration with that info. Obama has refused to take action on Iran or Syria and that's an indicator of his position on the matter.
Well if the Israeli's don't destroy Iran who will?
And if Iran isn't destroyed how much more terroristic will the arabs become under the loving guidance of koran.
I'm glad Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has the b a l l s that Odummer is missing taking out Iran's nukes should have been done long before now!
It doesn't matter who is in the White House. The US will support an Israeli war with Iran. Explicitly or behind the scenes, those will be American weapons and a US taxpayer funded Israeli military.
THIS WOUDLD BE ANOTHER MAJOR BLUNDER THAT WOULD PUT THE UNITED STATES IN YET ANOTHER PRECARIOUS POSITION.
- you should get your personal items out of Iran now...
Why?It has to happen.Might as well get it over with now.Let the bunker busters fly!
Haaretz is a leftie newspaper
The window for Zionist greatness is closing.
For Zionism to maintain control over the worlds Jewish people - they need more drama, more appeal to tribal paranoia and egotism - there is nothing better then war to accomplish that.
Really? 67 yrs after the end of your pal Hitler you have this to say? wow!
So the Zionists can attack Iran because of Hitler?
I think you had better leave both the logic and moral opinions to me - it will be safer for the world.
Israel is a small country but they have the military weapons capability to literally destroy Iran. That's without the use of their nuclear weaponry by the way.
What's more important to the world community? Retaining Middle Eastern peace and stability? Or to let Iran acquire nuclear weapons, who would then use those nuclear weapons to "blackmail" other Nations in the region into submission, upon threat of using those same nuclear weapons against Nations who resisted. While the whole world is put on pins and needles as a nuclear weaponized Iran threatens both Israel and whoever gets in Iran's way - with annihilation? Which Iran has already stated publicly it would do.
Let Israel do what it needs to do to protect not only itself and its people but also to insure the Middle East remains stable and safe from a nuclear armed Iran. Israel has the free world on its side for the most part. Israel's number one concern is its own survival as a sovereign Nation. A nuclear armed Iran would threaten Israel's very existence (and also Middle East stability) since Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has already said he wants to wipe Israel off the face of the map. The world...
Stability is WAAAAAY more imoportant that ANYTHING! YOU KNOW NOTHING OF GEOPOLITICS.
Israel must do what it must do. However, we must not interfere. I believe in giving public support and even military and logistic support. But this is Israel's fight, not ours. I believe passionately in the right for Israel to exist. They have a friend in many Americans, but this must be done by the Israelis.
A noble sentiment but no cigar. Logistically & numerically, Israel needs support from other countries. There are too many known sites, too deep under ground & the air time requires massive refueling for a lot of planes. It's doable but Israel will need help. I believe several arab countries are begging Israel to pull the trigger- they're even more terrified of a nuclear, Shiite Iran.
Why? Iran wants to destroy us too.
Things are a tad more interrelated than you think. This idea that we can live in an isolationist bubble, helping no one, and getting help from no one, is childish at best. What would have appened if France had taken that stance when we were fighting England for independence? Without their help, we never would have won.

Apparently somebody is taking it seriously.
