WASHINGTON —The international terror group known as Al Qaeda announced its dissolution today, saying that “our mission of destroying the American economy is now in the capable hands of the U.S. Congress.”

In an official statement published on the group’s website, the current leader of Al Qaeda said that Congress’s conduct during the so-called “fiscal-cliff” showdown convinced the terrorists that they had been outdone [....]

Al Qa'ida is obviously doing a better job reading the pulse of the American public. A recent Gallup gave it a 3-1 advantage over Congress in the "Approve of the job it is doing" category. Osama bin Laden's successor, Ayman al-Zawahiri, does trail in name recognition, but several pundits have suggested that might not be a disadvantage should he choose to challenge John Boehner for the House speaker's job. "At least Zawahiri would stick to his principles in any confrontation with Obama," Grover Norquist declared.
