Dubai arrests man for sharing assault video

Police in Dubai have arrested a man whose YouTube film alerted them to an alleged attack by an Emirati man on an expatriate driver.

The case has sparked a debate over strict national laws on filming public scenes and people.

Using its twitter feed, Dubai police announced on Wednesday officers had "arrested the man who shot the video of the bus driver incident."

Police were only alerted to the attack after the son of the alleged attacker complained that the video, uploaded to YouTube, damaged his father's reputation. The video was removed but subsequently reloaded on July 15 [....]

Events: Heavy gunfire is occuring around the area of the U.S. Embassy and residential compounds adjacent to the Trutier area of Tabarre. All Embassy personnel have been instructed to remain indoors and shelter-in-place until further notice. All others should avoid the area.

Actions to take:

Avoid the area;

Avoid demonstrations and any large gatherings of people;

Do not attempt to drive through roadblocks; and

If you encounter a roadblock, turn around and get to a safe area.
