90% of what goes on at The New Yorker can be explained by Vulgar Marxism

On Tuesday night, Alexandra Schwartz, a critic at The New Yorker, posted a piece criticizing the young supporters of Bernie Sanders.

I think "critiquing them" would be more accurate. She's looking for motives and situation, and the contradictory irony of the youth vote trailing a 74-year-old white guy. She's hardly calling them stupid, and her harshest phrase was Generation Selfie, an obvious tag that doesn't quite illuminate the expectations and driving issues and goals for Millennial. It's not hard to see why they would "distrust" a woman who's been dissed more than anyone else by press, Republicans and a good % of her own party. It is hard to see where they get the optimism that holding fast to uncompromised dreams actually works, unless it's the marketed message of Google and Facebook that ignores these companies' failures along with the failure of thousands of similar startups. It's a mystery to be solved - maybe the answers will become clearer as we move along.

The Party faithful are showing signs of panic especially in Democrat strongholds where these young insurgents may be able to stop or slow HRC's slouching towards Washington. The problem is that they are a minority of young people within a minority of Democrat voters. We'll have to wait and see if enough of them turn out in critical states to drive the final wooden stake into the heart of the bloody, but seasoned, vampire queen.
If by some miracle Bernie and his supporters can defeat the corrupt Democrat Machine it will be priceless entertainment watching his and his young supporter's sworn Party enemies swallow their bile and compromise to support the peoples choice.

Not sure who's panicking. At this point I don't see any Bernie bounce in New Hampshire, and would predict the election will be closer than previously thought (5 points?). Hillary won New Hampshire in 2008, and New Hampshire has an ornery streak. In any case, it doesn't really matter - it's hard at this point to believe that Sanders is suddenly going to take off with minorities or people who self-describe as moderates (the vast majority of America and the Democratic Party), but hey, stranger things have happened. Bernie's got his 2 early liberal states to parade his liberal credentials in, but he didn't even win #1. And those "young insurgents"? Despite going 85% for Bernie, not enough of them turned out to win it. Yep, old folks make it to the precinct on time.
But curious what the "bile" is that Hillary's throwing at Bernie - when his support has the gall to stand in front of Hillary and say "my generation thinks you're dishonest". No mincing words there. Anyway, compromise is often good. It would be better to compromise with Bernie than Ted Cruz, for example, but sadly, that choice isn't in the cards. Instead, will be better to send Mr Cruz home to Canada than to risk it. (maybe we can call him a "Snowback" without offending anyone? or just a "Throwback")

The young Bernie supporter was just speaking truth to power although he may have been projecting a bit inferring he was speaking for others. HRC's dishonesty is well known and documented and this knowledge and distrust is shared by many people of all political persuasions.
It appears that Liberal PC easily breaks down when Hispanic Republicans are the target of attacks and even I was thinking of something related to ice and Canada but decided I couldn't justify that petty step down into the gutter to appear clever.

What attacks on Hispanic Republicans are you talking about?

Oh, he's having vapors over my silly reference to a well-known Mexican epithet. But then Ted's Cuban - I could have made Castro or cigar jokes for a bit of dull humor.

Here, let me fix this for you:

Schwartz's piece is nonsense. Her premise is that young Sanders supporters are besotted by his perceived "purity". In fact, based on my experience speaking with many young Sanders supporters, they like Bernie because they truly believe, due to his long and consistent record and his campaigning, that he shares their concerns about education, the environment, health care, jobs, militarism, and economic security. They appreciate the fact that he doesn't take money from corporations and no corporate-backed super-Pacs support him because they recognize this means he won't be beholden to corporatists if he prevails. This stuff really isn't difficult.

Schwartz's attack is the same game plan the Dem elite and their minions used in 2012 to distract and defuse the Primary Obama movement, it is elite, condescending and typical of the Party and their ilk.
The problem this time is that Bernie is a contender not just an idea and he has a growing base of support. To drag out this crap now just shows that there is fear deep in the Clinton camp and this stupid tactic could backfire especially if Clinton wins the nomination and her minions have driven the young Bernie supporters from the Party with their insults.
I expect the Boycott Elections movement to grow when the Clinton loyalists start dictating their finisher line, to the rubes, that they have to vote for Clinton, they have no choice.

Sure, there is no tea party, Republicans don't have both houses and most state legislatures, there was no Citizens United ruling, Occupy Wall Street and Ferguson protests were an overwhelming success, and America is simply waiting for a progressive revolution. Blue sky as far as I can see.
by PeraclesPlease on Sat, 02/06/2016 - 8:32am
You're slipping, PP there would be no Citizens United if not for HRC's filing a frivolous lawsuit in a vain attempt to protect her image. This was either one of her most stupid maneuvers or a slick politician scheming to open the door for the $Billion she would need to buy the presidency.
Many of Bernie's young supporters may be naive rubes who with others believe in the system and have delusions about progressive revolution but at least they recognize that HRC is a liar and a phony and reject putting that kind of political parasite in the WH.
by Peter (not verified) on Sat, 02/06/2016 - 11:14am
Wow, Hillary's responsible for Citizens United just like she's responsible for the Birther movement and all the other troubles that confront us. Truly remarkable woman.
by PeraclesPlease on Sat, 02/06/2016 - 11:23am
Wow, now you're sliding, PP. You need to regroup and find something to hang onto that doesn't rely on Birther diversions that have nothing to do with what HRC has done. The Sturm-und-Drang that is the Clinton's legacy is growing more and more difficult to ignore/suppress/deny but I'm sure some will continue to try.

Peter, you never provide links to support your arguments. This is not surprising, because there is no support for your delusional statements. Please provide justification for your statement about the Democratic elites defusing your non-existent attack on people wanting to Primary Obama. You are unable to provide facts.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-fix/post/the-anti-obama-democra...
There was never a real Primary threat against Obama. You might want to use the Google to see the electoral vote count in the 2012 Presidential election.
Your statements and arguments are like Donald Trump's statements and arguments, facts don't matter. Trump rants and provide no facts. You rant and refuse to provide links to support your allegations.
