The president’s administration is increasingly tapping Bush-era officials as staffing woes persist

Throughout his presidential campaign, Donald Trump repeatedly declared that “the last thing we need is another Bush,” as he vowed to take on two political dynasties — the Bushes and the Clintons.

But as president, Trump has been increasingly dipping into the talent pool from the George W. Bush administration that he regularly vilified during the campaign to now fill critical administration posts.

Trump promised to drain the swamp and instead rely on Washington outsiders, but nearly 100 days into his term, the staffing and political realities have set in, and his team has been turning to some of the top old hands of the Bush administration.

Trump expected to pick Treasury veteran as top bank cop

President Donald Trump is expected to nominate former Treasury undersecretary Randy Quarles as the Federal Reserve’s top bank regulator, a person close to the decision said.

The selection would send a clear signal that the administration is looking to take a pragmatic approach to paring back bank regulation, rather than choosing an ideologue who would seek to eviscerate the rules enacted since the financial crisis [.....]

Quarles, a veteran of the George W. Bush administration, is a managing partner at equity investment firm The Cynosure Group. A graduate of Yale Law School, he served as Treasury undersecretary for domestic finance from 2005 to 2006, and as assistant Treasury secretary for international affairs for three years before that.

The slot for which Quarles is the likely pick, Fed vice chairman of supervision, has never been formally filled since it was created out of the landmark 2010 Dodd-Frank financial-regulation law [....]

Events: Heavy gunfire is occuring around the area of the U.S. Embassy and residential compounds adjacent to the Trutier area of Tabarre. All Embassy personnel have been instructed to remain indoors and shelter-in-place until further notice. All others should avoid the area.

Actions to take:

Avoid the area;

Avoid demonstrations and any large gatherings of people;

Do not attempt to drive through roadblocks; and

If you encounter a roadblock, turn around and get to a safe area.
