Sex between snow monkeys and sika deer may be 'new behavioural tradition'

[....] While the first report of a male Japanese macaque, or snow monkey, and female sika deer taking to each other was revealed earlier this year, scientists say they are now confident the behaviour is sexual after scrutinising adolescent females suggestively interacting with stags at Minoo in Japan.
“The monkey-deer sexual interactions reported in our paper may reflect the early stage development of a new behavioural tradition at Minoo,” said Dr Noëlle Gunst-Leca, co-author of the study from the University of Lethbridge in Canada.
While sexual interactions between closely related species have been seen for all manner of animals, from various species of fish to species of baboon, such liaisons are rare, with the sexual assault of king penguins by Antarctic fur seals the only other known example between distant species.

But do the deer *really* want it, or are they coerced or too young to make an informed decision? [sorry, just having trouble getting my brain to let go...what with these "suggestive adolescents". "Not my fault, occifer, she just wouldn't take no for an answer..."] and being Japan, are these deer hanging around shopping malls and parks with Hello Kitty regalia and smart phones?

I didn't find this article, BTW, it found me. I blame your Russia stealing the internet link for reminding me to check what was up at The Guardian.
But blame the activities described on global warming causing some species to get hot and bothered?.

Don't go slut shaming - the deer are just following their instincts - a "nature vs. nurtured" smackdown (or humpathon, depending). "Hot and harassed" I'm interpreting this - it's those over-testosteroned macaq monkeys who should get some edymikayshun, learn to keep their peckers in their trousers, or wear trousers, or sumtin'.
Of course it's my fault - I led you there on purpose. Just like those Japanese salarymen. Like candy to a baby. Oh wait, that's their trick. That used panties thing's been around for a while, as well as Japanese men going to Cambodian hotels for an underage sex weekend - something more bizarre to witness than even the excess of sex bars for foreigners. 13 as age of consent - well, it's legal so must be moral, eh? But why not put age of consent at 18 or even 21? That'd solve all our problems. Clear lines vs blurred ones.
