While I'm in general fine with quotas and admissions procedures that account for different backgrounds, for testing I kust want them to administer the goddamn tests - and make sure people *aren't* cheating.

Fits in well with the goals of the Oliver Scholar s project that seeks to aid students from kids from economically stressed communities. The students are chosen because they are doing well in school. They are placed in an Ivy League-type situation to better prepare them for college.

Huh? They are placed in a distinctly non-Ivy League environment to tutor them and get them emotionally and socially adjusted to be able to handle an Ivy League environment. Though I wonder why not just prepare them with world skills and relevant education to go into the world and accomplish things, rather than this endless preparation for college, as if that's the pinnacle. In some ways we peak at 20 years old, yet every 20 year old is sitting in a cafe studying? Doesn't bode well for society.

The students are prepped for independent and boarding schools as prep for college curriculum.

Right, but they're not put in an Ivy League environment as that prep.

Well, Ivy League compared to my college prep high school.

Agreed, I'm fine with these issues being considered during the admission process but adding it onto the SAT doesn't seem like the right time to do it.

That's basically what the New Yorker piece says. One campus I know shared teachers between a community college and a university - good for everyone. Also a place where immigrants can get a toehold or adults taking night classes, etc.
