Gov. John Bel Edwards of Louisiana is expected to sign a bill that would ban abortion as soon as a heartbeat can be detected.
Comments
The “heartbeat” these state laws address is actually a simple that produces a rhythm that can be detected via ultrasound. This beat could be detected as early as 22 days. The actual heart and it’s beat. cannot be detected until 20 weeks. The idea that a formed heart was needed to create a heartbeat was based on data from other mammals like pigs. Human hearts do not form as early as thought. But why rely on science when the goal is controlling women’s bodies?
