Morons Object To President's Speech To Kids!

That's the essence of the story all the corporate media is running with about this speech by the President to the children.  The only people who would make this objection are complete morons and, frankly, asshole right wing, racists.

Given this pretty easily demonstrable fact, why is our corporate media behaving in such an outrageously irresponsible manner?

Could it be related to the same sort of irresponsibility that misinformed the American people about Al Gore "inventing" the internet?

Could it be the same sort of completely inexcusable false "nuetrality" of the corporate media?

Could it be that the corporate media that dominates the information about current events and the news is not at all engaged in journalism but is instead fully invested in pedaling whatever gossip and sensational bullshit that comes along solely to attract more viewers/listeners/readers in the hopes of profiting by it and the public interest be damned?

Yeah, I think that's pretty much it.

Some means really needs to be found to bring some sort of punitive action against these irresponsible corporations for so badly misleading and misinforming the public and for creating the illusion of legitimate grievances brought by complete idiots and extremists with a partisan and racist agenda where none exist.  I suppose the fact that they are contributing to the downfall of our once great and glorious republic means nothing to those whores called reporters and editors.

    Comments

I dunno, probably my mood today.

Let us just dress up in monkey suits and cast refuse as the idiots.

I am really bummed out. I swear, if there was a better country to go to, I'd go. The lunatics have taken over the asylum, and I'm not feeling so comfortable here anymore.

What the hell? Now we have to protect our children from the President?????????????They talk about taking back their country? Well I want mine back! I don't want to live in a mean, spiteful, hateful country full of idiots who want to sit back while their neighbors suffer, and slaughter wolves, and bully people into silence and draw Hitler mustaches on pictures of our President and make a mockery out of Christianity...

I'm frickin' pissed off and I don't know what to do w/ my anger.

Obama has cancelled the speech. Pity. Bush did it all of the time

    WHAT???

I know exactly how you feel. It's stunning. And none of us can do a damned thing about it.

Obama didn't cancel the speech. the wingnuts would rather let George W. use their kids as cannon fodder in a needless oil war than have them encouraged by a Black president to work hard in school.

They talk about taking back their country? Well I want mine back! I don’t want to live in a mean, spiteful, hateful country full of idiots...
Funny you should say that. I said last week in an email to a friend (who’s not American)
I sit here and read about and listen to all these whacky right wing people screaming "I want my country back" and I think yeah, I want MY country back too, the one I grew up in that wasn't so mean-spirited.
I envy you, that you are still angry about it. I’m beyond anger and into despair...

Let's not forget the Hungry Caterpillar, being read to preschool children as NYC and DC were under attack. Was W trying to divert attention? Yes, I bet he was, trying to fool the children while he let terrorists attack! Why didn't we think of that?

I thought it was "My Pet Goat".

They want their country back. The one that had white Presidents.

I honestly had no idea it would be this bad.

This stings really hard for them, I was just writing to LisB and still now gathering my thoughts.

The people that most hate him got *awful* grades. And they turned out really well, so grades sure can't be important. Knowledge isn't important either; Sarah Palin doesn't know anything, doesn't read newspapers ever, and she's a great leader! Just like them, in fact! The real problem is the bad "guv'mint trahin' to take away their raahhts!" That requires no knowledge, no study, just resentment. No effort involved, suits them really well.

And here's a guy trying to tell their kids to get fricking good grades! Yet they didn't get no good grades and they turned out *great!* ...All *very* threatening, since they secretly know that they are totally full of shit. If their kids get C's, that's okay and they don't need to help them with their damn homework cuz it won't help since the whole thing is the bad guv'mint's fault anyway and plus, C's aren't the problem, the real thing is about takin' away all their raahhts!

And the worst of all, and this part makes them apoplectic: THE GUY TELLING THEIR KIDS TO GET GOOD-FOR-NUTHIN' GRADES IS A **COLORED**!!! LIKE HE'D KNOW ANYTHING AT ALL ANYHOW!!

Can't stomach it, can't begin to.

No. The problem is that we've taken control of the the asylum back from the inmates and they are rioting. You have to keep reminding yourself that the racheting up of the crazy is a direct result of their loss of control.

Stoop'd libruls dont know how to spel. That's moran, moran!

An educated elecorate is the right-wing's worst nightmare. They can't lie to, mislead, bully or infuse false fear into an intelligent, informed public.

Keep 'em stupid, so they'll vote Repuglican.

Great political strategy. Good for the country? Not so much...

This story was on our local news last night (WMUR, the only network affiliate in the entire state of New Hampshire). The anchor never mentioned where this story originated, just said that "some" people objected and parents are being given the option to have their children opt out of hearing the speech. He also never said whether that meant parents in NH, just sort of threw the shit out there. Keep the lunacy going.

I feel the same as Stilli...I don't know what to do with my anger. We have got to stop this lunacy from taking hold. The death panels, the birthers, the teabaggers. WTF? We won the election and we are losing our country.

Likewise. I want to take the road of peaceful engagement, but between the idiots and those manipulating the idiots, I have this rising anager driving a desire to lash out. But no one wins if we get into battle royale to win back our country. Somehow we have find a way to steer the discourse back to sanity. It's just right now I'm feeling a bit hopeless about that achieving that.

T'ain't changed much since the days of Huckleberry Finn, and his Dad, ole Huck's Pa would fit in just fine with these wingnuts:

There was a free nigger there from Ohio (Illinois) -- .... They said he was a p'fessor (President) ...and could talk all kinds of languages, and knowed everything. And that ain't the wust.....but when they told me there was a State in this country where they'd let that nigger (talk to students), I drawed out. I says I'll (keep my kid home)..

I share the anger, but not at the media. Like it or not, the "morons" make enough noise that it is bound to end up on the minds of enough people (on both sides of the ideological divide - let's not forget that left-leaning sites are often in front of the corporate media on issues like this) that the corporate media would be foolish NOT to lick their chopped chops and dive in.

Now, I don't think that we should ignore the ideological kooks when they start making noise; I am fully in support of the Media Matters, the TPM's, and so on attacking the nonsense. To not address it just gives the Becks/Limbaughs/etc too much of an open field. But, we do have to save some of our energy so that we can fight the truly important fights.

T'aint much indeed. This is great stuff! I read Huck as an adult about a year ago (I think I read before when I was 12 and it didn't mean much) and am still moved.

You are most welcome if you're got the energy to post anything you may like on my current blog, "Uppity Negro."

    Thanks much.

I think you are partly correct here. Our side is in charge and a black man is leading us which is their primary objection and the source of the hysteria: their racist fears and hatred. Unfortunately we are not "in control" at all because our leaders, including Obama, refuse to forcefully denounce the Republicans and their allies in the business world who are fomenting this stuff. Obama's fantasy of bipartisanship and his complete membership in the DC Democratic philosophy of ignoring, instead of fighting, Republican extremism is allowing this stuff to continue and also in some respects giving the corporate media a free pass. Unless and until the Democrats stand up for themselves forcefully denouncing this bullshit, the media has only one side to report. Even though they know the truth, they refuse to call the lunatics what they are. They require someone else to do so in order to maintain their false nuetrality and apparent professional committment not to identify known lies, obviously recognizable extremism, and self evident lunacy.

I'm in. Can I come as I am or do I need a tux?

Elk Grove "Unified" School District outside Sacramento, CA which is notorious for these kinds of conservatively-based moronic antics and is a huge district, has sent out warning notices to the parents about Obama's speech to school children about education. (Oh MY GOD!!! IS HE CRAZY? WHAT IS OBAMA THINKING WANTING TO TALK ABOUT EDUCATION TO SCHOOL KIDS! OH MY GOD!!!!).

ELK GROVE UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT OUTSIDE SACRAMENTO HAS SENT OUT WARNING NOTICES TO PARENTS ABOUT THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES SPEAKING TO THEIR STUDENTS. OK. WHERE ARE WE AS A NATION WHEN THIS KIND OF INSANITY TAKES PLACE

How much of your tax dollars are supporting this school? You are paying for this potentially.

Feel free to let them know how you feel about this.

We are in a fight for our country but we have political leaders that won't lead us in a counterattack because they find it objectionable and unseemly. They are also just plain old fraidy cats who dont' have the guts to fight back no matter what the other side does or they are such flatliners they wait until it's too late to fight as with Willie Horton in 88 or the Swiftboaters in 04. That's really the problem. We Democrats stopped electing real leaders some time ago and prefer professorial intellectuals who shun political combat and prefer to act as though they are at a tea party instead of a bar fight with the Republicans. Those kind of Democrats are wimps I'm afraid and have led us to retreat defeat over and over and over now for decades even though a solid majority of Americans are with us and not the right wing Republicans who are behind all the hysteria.

What we need is someone with a brain and with some cajones who isn't afraid to defend themselves and their positions/policies. That's why people like FDR, Truman,JFK and even Clinton are looked upon fondly. At some point, in some cases at every point, they fought these bastards and won. That's why people loved Teddy---his refusal to apologize for the positions he took and his willingness to stand up for Democratic positions and policies despite the withering lifelong assault he was subjected to by these very same bad actors in American politics.

The only way to win a fight is to fight to win. Refusing to fight based upon some school marmish preference for being above it all or not wanting to engage in partisan divisiveness or worse... one's refusal to abandon a fantasy world of bipartisan cooperation that never was and never will be, is extraordinarily naive and is the equivalent of inviting more, not less of this crap.

The Left really has never accepted that the majority of this country are uneducated, so their perceptions are based on who "looks" like they are on top. Thinkers hear arguments and know, regardless of the animation levels of the speakers, whose point is more valid. Slow minds merely give the "win" to the one who made the most noise. We need the bumper sticker.

I suspect many Republican leaders are now physically afraid of their own people, which is part of the reason they won't speak out.

Obama is going to have to speak to this atmosphere at some point. It is growing increasingly poisonous and dangerous.

I have to respectively disagree Dan. While it may be the case with some I think the vast majority of Republican politicians are playing to their base...all is fair in love, war and politics. They are trying to fire them up to reinstill some passion in their movement. And right now all they have is that their base is excited about how they think Obama is a dangerous socialist...so the GOP is running with it.

    Agreed!

Many Democrats (especially the pathetic DC Dems) also have a self defeating hard headedness about prefering things the way they think they "ought" to be instead of dealing with the reality of how things are and how most of the nation is vs their set of preferences. In politics you either deal with both or you lose. And so for the better part of 40 years we've been losing fights that should have been won because the other side fights constantly and ours fights only rarely (if at all) because, in part, they prefer politics be conducted in their elite comfort zone which is far more academic, civil, collegial, and intellectual than politics in America has ever been. The average American not only doesn't want their leaders to be wimps, they don't respect wimps of any kind.

So, in super simplified terms we keep seeing the same pathological scenario played out of unpopular and even despised Republicans distracting the nation by making Democrats look like wimps and focusing voters on election day on that and that alone. "You may hate me, but do you really want a bunch of pussies running the show? At least I fight for what I believe and if anybody messes with America we'll kick their ass." It's a distorted and almost perverse manipulation but it's pretty undeniable. That's the crux of the problem and the sad fact is that far too many Democrats really are wimps so it's pretty easy work for the detestable Republican scum to portray them that way. But whether they actually are wimps or not, when Democrats allow the scum to portray them in this way and do nothing to fight back the demonstrates it is false, then as far as voters know, it is reality.

I agree with you Libertine except that I also agree that some of the Republicans are probably getting a bit fearful of the mobs they've created and which they continue to encourage. But, having said that, they aren't fearful enough to stop fanning the flames. Someone said recently on TV, I think Dan Savage, that their real aim is to literally get Obama eliminated. I pray not, but who would be surprised if that were the outcome of the hysteria they are fomenting? It was preciesly this sort of hateful hysteria that put JFK's life in danger. Remember, right wingers were handing out "Wanted" posters with JFK's picture and a list of their fantasized grievances against him in Dallas the week he was killed.

It was a national cheer when Dubya said that Obama was "Wanted Dead or Alive". It was also a lie. Dubya wanted Osama so he could cudgel the American people into doing his wishes out of fear. America wanted to be John Wayne and go kill the bad guy!

Hello I guess ill let you know that im one of those right wing radical extremists that fill you all with so much pitty and disgust. I wont hurl insults your direction because I don’t know you and I imagine that you are probably decent people with differing political views than my own.

I would like to tell you why I have a problem with this. First let me state I have no problem with the President addressing school children as it has been done in the past. I do however feel that parents should have the right to make the choice of having their children attend.

The part of this debacle that frightens me was the choice of the administration to include lesson plans with the speech. This opens up an pandoras box of issues. If we let this white house set lesson plans around speeches to your children you can bet the next administration will do the same (here’s the part I play on your fear of republicans) Should it be a republican administration whats to say they wouldn’t use this access to our children for their own ends. Maybe by perhaps increasing the number of these speeches with included lesson plans to a monthly time frame. And if these lesson plans included things like having children read from speeches from great republicans like Cheney and Rove. I hope this gives you pause.

If it makes you feel better to make statements like "The only people who would make this objection are complete morons and, frankly, asshole right wing, racists" than please do so with pride, as I respect your right of free speech.

They are morons I am in complete agreement. I think they might also be crazy.

With all due respect I must say hooey to your "concerns" which are misplaced, uninformed and foolish.

Nothing personal but please don't try to foist upon anyone the idea that having the President talk to kids about working hard in school is in ANY way a bad thing. Had Bush done the very same thing and parents had raised the same "concerns" of the looneys who are objecting to it, and who you are associating yourself with as right wing lite, they would have either been completely ignored by the media as extremists or called unpatriotic and disrespectful. I don't think it's unpatriotic, but it is disrespectful and stupid. For you to put the patina of not being quite so crazed as the people you are, in part, associating with is appalling. You apparently, like most Republicans, project quite clearly your fears. You believe that Obama will try to take some political/partisan advantage of these kids in the same manner that scumbags like Rove or cynical hacks like W might be expected to. But the difference is that Obama, for all his faults, is not a partisan hack and has some honor. He would never do anything like that. That you or anyone else would make the claim with a straight face that you fear he might behave in the manner of the Rove or Bush is simply absurd.

Of course it would have been a great deal more difficult for Bush to urge kids to do well in school since he was and remains a dolt very unlike Obama who was an excellent student and who, unlike Bush, worked very hard to get where he is in life. Everything Bush ever had was given to him. If his Dad hadn't kept baling him out all his life from one failure after another, Bush would just be another drunk in Texas. Obama also has enough respect for the office in which he serves that he would not debase it in that very right wing Republican manner. Bush had money, but no class. That's why he had Rove. Birds of a feather ya know.

It doesn't make me feel better to call the people who are in hysterics over this nonflap exactly hat they are. It makes me feel honest.

Wow I try to give you an honest view of the other side and im belittled, my associations are called into question And I dont remember saying that I represented anyone other than myself. But I guess its easier to hide behind Obamas cloak of perfection. Just listen to yourself "Bush would just be another drunk in Texas" "For you to put the patina of not being quite so crazed as the people you are, in part, associating with is appalling" you've given in to hate your objectivity is clearly in questian as is you ability to conduct a civil discourse. You have become what you disgust.

You could be right! So when are we going to get out the water canons and rubber bullets and get them back into their rooms? I've had enough to last the next 7+ years already!

As a recent convert from repub to dem, let me say the the very idea of an uproar over the President of the United States speaking to school children is one of the saddest commentaries on the state of our country that I have ever heard.

What if the President were "visiting" the school...should parents be notified in advance so they could keep their children home on that day? What if it were the father of one of the children sharing his job? Should parents have the same option? What is happening here?

Apparently there is so little trust of our President that it boils down to this. Even on the day I felt the most disgust for President Bush, it never would have occurred to me to keep him from addressing my grandchildren's school room.

So, I find your POV pretty appalling, even though you have every right to have it.
So, yeah, this is pretty much appalling.

Considering they are the WINNERS and are the MAJORITY, they're a little tightly wound aren't they Artimus 101? Not to worry, every once in a while you're bound to find one not frothing at the mouth. Have patience.
