I was surfing the net and came to yahoo and saw the headline:
"In politics, does race race trump gender?" So, I checked it out. Turns out yahoo was shilling an article by Roger Simon, well known wingnut dumbass, that opened with this idiotic bit of "analysis":
"How come Roland Burris has had such an easy time getting to the U.S. Senate while Caroline Kennedy has had such a hard time?
Could it be that the race card trumps the gender card in U.S. politics?
Well, yes. It could be.
Once supporters of Roland Burris made his appointment to the Senate all about race, the deal was done, though it took a few days for Senate leaders to wake up to the fact."
Of course, the answer to the opening question is because Burris was appointed and the Governor of New York hasn't appointed anyone to the Senate. The rest of the column reads like something you'd expect to come out of the mouth of some drunk at a bar who should have gone home about 3 hours earlier.
Anyone with half a lick of sense understands that there's absolutely no similarity between the Burris situation to fill Obama's seat and the situation in New York as it relates to Caroline Kennedy. Thus, there's simply no comparison of the two situations that has any validity at all. It's absurd and idiotic.
It's just astounding to me that this guy is given space anywhere to spout this nonsense on a major website: Politico. Simon's malarky is nothing but a very poor attempt to try and revive the gender vs race animosity some felt in the Obama vs Clinton contest last year despite the fact that there's simply nothing similar about the two situations at all.
It's just disgusting to see this garbage being given credence on Politico and then being pushed on Yahoo which has an even wider audience. I nominate Roger Simon for Dumbass Wingnut Pundit Supreme!

Comments
You should see the comments on Politico. Simon's getting universally trashed for that POS article.

getting universally trashed
Even unto page one of TPM...I wonder if Simon will at some very near juncture attempt to extricate himself...if so, how?

I can understand someone writing something like this--but what I wonder about is the editorial process over at Politico...or is the justaposition of "editorial" and "Politico" an oxymoron?

Sounds like affirmative reaction by a pundit; or how to make nothing out of something.
by dickday (not verified) on Wed, 01/14/2009 - 7:15pm
CT Voter, Roger Simon is probably his own editor.
Simon has reached Joe the Plumber's level of reporting skill.
The GOP gets pounded on (rightfully) for it's deafness when it comes to issues of race. If Simon can rationalize this article, we have to wonder about his ethnic biases.

Roger Simon's column used to run in the Chicago Tribune back in the late 1980's or so. He was one of my favorite columnists back then.
But now, I see this grinning, insipid hack gleefully spouting the (always, seemingly, pro-Republican) conventional wisdom, and I wonder what happened to the guy I was reading back then. At first, before I saw him on TV, I assumed it was a different Roger Simon (he doesn't look that much different twenty years later).
I think these guys internalized Republican talking points so thoroughly that they no longer have any critical filter to tell when some operative is feeding them utter bullshit. It all goes to show they weren't very clever or insightful to begin with.
Every time I see this fool now, and think of how much I enjoyed his earlier writing, I feel vaguely ashamed. For me and for him.

What did morons ever do to piss you off enough to demean them with that comparison?
by ricky (not verified) on Wed, 01/14/2009 - 8:35pm
Wha? Biggest moron ever? Seriously? Have I been transported to an alternative universe where George Bush was never born? Oh please, please, please someone say George Who?
by markg8 (not verified) on Wed, 01/14/2009 - 8:38pm
I was tempted to go with biggest moron ever, but then I glanced at my GWB countdown clock. I'm going to go with ginormous moron.
And I never comment on Politico pieces, but when I saw this tripe today I posted the following:
And not for nothing isn't Roger Simon a former Bloomberg reporter? Could explain why he's so far gone in the Caroline Now! camp that he would write this piece of garbage.

I never heard of a moron rating system, but that guy who mis-spelled "Moron" has got to be high on the list
doug fieth is still the stupidest fucking guy on the planet though

I would say that Roger Simon is both an ox and a moron.

A possible silver lining from the Bush Maladministration: "Hey, it coulda been worse! Roger Simon coulda been the Decider!"

Dijamo and the Amazing Technicolor Avatar...coming soon to a blog near you!
I keep a Bush calendar at my office. It's a countdown calendar to 1/20/09, and it features strategerificous Decider quotations. (Exhibit A: "I know how hard it is, sir. I talk to families who die.")

It is complete Bunk, Simon's article. But it should not be a surprise from Politico, the political world's TMZ. Anything to be intentionally provocative and draw click-throughs from Yahoo! and other sources.
Pls be certain to remember this: Politico is NOT a true political news source. It is a political wonk-fest pushing the Dems in disarray meme and desperately trying to increase ad revenue to survive.
Thus, they use misleading headlines for their stories, spotty research and are in bed with Matt Drudge (see Jonathan Martin & Ben Smith) and bring flowers to Cindy McCain.

The Burris and Kennedy appointments have one thing in common. They are both being appointed by democrats. The main difference to democrats in the two is that Burris is Black.
When will the democrats stop being the party of hate? From a four year bloody war against them to free the slaves, to Jim Crow, to Roosevelt giving them syphilis at Tuskeegee, Truman setting them up to get killed, JFK voting against the 1959 civil rights bill, George Wallace and his grand cohort of fellow democrats standing in schoolhouse doors keeping blacks out, when will democrats stop being the party of racial hatred?

OK let's play "Name That Party"
Which party's National committee nominee sent out a CD containing a song called "Barack The Magic Negro"? Which party's had a National Committee nominee who had to resign from an all White country club?
Which party staffed the Civil Rights division of the Justice Department with racists? Said racists referred to a top of her class elite law school graduate as an "affirmative action thing". Another DOJ racist asked for coffee "black and bitter like a female member of the Civil Rights Commission".
The racists in the Southern Democratic Party met opposition from Black groups like the Mississippi National Freedom Party and the National Democratic Party of Alabama. Which party has an Uncle Tom who said that the "Magic Negro" CD was "Oh-Tay"? Hint "Tom" also helped steal votes in Ohio and has a cure for homosexuality.
Now Name that Party!

Say ol boy, I think you've mispelled your moniker. I think you should drop the "s" from spric. May God restore your damaged soul in time for you to see how twisted and gnarled it has become and thus give you time to change before it is too late. :)

EEEWWWWW!! "...in bed with Matt Drudge"? There isn't a shower in the world that could ever get you clean.
Simon's article is a joke. I read it and my jaw dropped open. It was truly stunning that anybody with even a grade school education and a few years spent on Planet Earth could have written that nonsense.
