The Bishop and the Butterfly: Murder, Politics, and the End of the Jazz Age

    A PICTURE IS WORTH A THOUSAND THREATS

    I was meandering through the 'web' today. I was trying to get a grasp on what was going on five years ago.  Five years ago we were in the depths of despair. W Bush had been reelected even though as a private citizen he could have been convicted of scores of felonies. The dems looked dead and the permanent repub majority was claimed by rover.

    We had already known for a couple years that our prez was preparing to invade Iraq BEFORE HE HAD EVER ASSUMED OFFICE; enough of that.

    I checked out Crooks&Liars, one of my favorite stops and found a video where all the fellows on Fox including The Brat Hume were laughing and joking about communiques to twenty or thirty governors that they have three days to shape up or else.  http://crooksandliars.com/

    The Hammered Kraut just ho hummed the entire threat reminding us that he receives death threats daily.

    The conclusion was sort of: Boys will be boys. Or militias will be militias. Fascists will be Fascists.

    I then was reminded that these groups, including the group threatening the governors are kind of clever. Even Mike Vanderboegh had been clever in the wording of his rants. http://tpmcafe.talkingpointsmemo.com/talk/blogs/dikkday48yahoocom/

    The Alien Registration Act or Smith Act (18 U.S.C. § 2385) of 1940 is a United States federal statute that makes it a criminal offense for

    "

    "

    Whoever knowingly or willfully advocates, abets, advises, or teaches the duty, necessity, desirability, or propriety of overthrowing or destroying the government of the United States or the government of any State, Territory, District or Possession thereof, or the government of any political subdivision therein, by force or violence, or by the assassination of any officer of any such government; or

    Whoever, with intent to cause the overthrow or destruction of any such government, prints, publishes, edits, issues, circulates, sells, distributes, or publicly displays any written or printed matter advocating, advising, or teaching the duty, necessity, desirability, or propriety of overthrowing or destroying any government in the United States by force or violence, or attempts to do so; or

    Whoever organizes or helps or attempts to organize any society, group, or assembly of persons who teach, advocate, or encourage the overthrow or destruction of any such government by force or violence; or becomes or is a member of, or affiliates with, any such society, group, or assembly of persons, knowing the purposes thereof--

    Shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than twenty years, or both, and shall be ineligible for employment by the United States or any department or agency thereof, for the five years next following his conviction

    This all brought me back to the post war Red Scare. The Congressional Hearings where commie killers like Reagan and McCarthy made our nation safe for commie haters.

    I am not now, nor have I ever been a member of the Communist Party or any other organization espousing the violent overthrow of the United States Government.

    So the right wing sites and the spokesmen like Vanderboegh attempt to stay on the safe side of the Smith Act. That is until Vanderboegh blew a gasket.

    They talk about the fact that they are waiting to be fired upon first.

    Are you ready for the violent overthrow of the United States federal government? The federal government is. Do you wonder why? Well, wonder no more. The greatest depression is just barely started, and all federal plans are intended to deepen and prolong the crushing economic disaster. How many of our 320 million population will have to be homeless or starving before the riots reduce this country to a rubble-strewn war zone?

    Now consider this: The concentration camps [see video] were built years ago because the riots were planned and engineered. The 20-26 million Mexican refugees, the open Mexican border, and the hideous banking practices were necessary to precipitate the housing bubble, the collapse, and the subsequent riots. Economic pressures are forcing states to open their prison doors. That should provide the final sparks needed to begin the conflagration.

    I'm just a American patriot who believes in freedom for all, even the ones I don't like. It's time to make a stand and take over the media, government, and police of this nation. Join me in the movement and join the forums.   http://waronyou.com/topics/the-violent-overthrow-of-the-government/

    Great isn't it? I mean he calls his site the violent overthrow of the government.  Oh, and he of course embeds all these Fox videos to prove his points including one starring beckerhead who tells you all about the concentration camps. Anyway, all these guys have been instructed about the Smith Act so they stay away from calling their followers to war. At any rate check out Avlon or my own blog on these issues.

    My purpose today was simply to discuss the left wingers and their protests five years ago. A conservative put together a pretty good essay demonstrating that our side had its own signs relating to doom and destruction. We carried cardboard signs call for the death of Bush. W bush was hung in effigy. We liked the word KILL; we liked that word a lot.

    And the only reason I'm publishing the essay is that many Obama supporters -- to my astonishment -- now claim that Bush was never threatened at protests. Before we can have a rational discussion on this topic, we need to have a shared factual basis. The evidence below will establish that basis.

    If you truly, truly cared about presidents' lives being threatened, you would be just as incensed by people threatening Bush's life at protests as you are about (the far less frequent instances of) Obama's life being threatened at protests.

    Were any people ever arrested or questioned for threatening to kill Bush during his term in office? Of course. Every president is the target of numerous threats, and many of them do get investigated. Examples include:
    - A man who in 2008 made verbal threats towards Bush at the White House fence where he left a suspicious package;
    - A student who was quoted in a 2007 school publication as saying, "I would like to shoot George W. Bush, because in my opinion he is the worst president ever. After that was accomplished, I would be known as a national hero";
    - A mentally deranged man who threatened to blow up the White House in January of 2009;
    - A graduate student who posted online threats against Bush in 2006;
    - A guy who was turned in to the authorities by his own girlfriend after he threatened to kill Bush during a phone call;
    ...and so on.

    However, all these instances of Bush-threateners being arrested happened outside of a protest setting. This article is about protesters with threatening protest signs -- not about all threats in all settings.

    Pretty good photographic evidence at this blog for what he is contending.

    I did not see any guns in the pix. I do not recall any talk of left wing militias. But then again, we were threatening the life of our Chief Executive Decider.

    Check out this zomblog if for no other reason than to check out how to put a good argument together. There was not much there I could really argue with.

    At least when we are in power, the left does not demand loyalty

    Oh, and off subject, check out this site when you get down on our President:
