A bolt of cynicism struck me a few moments ago, as I read another headline about the Bush administration vowing not to let the automakers go under.
How cynical is it to wonder if the whole scenario is a set-up? Could this possibly be a blatant attempt by a horrible, legacy-deficient administration to make a last minute play for something positive to be added to the history books? The two 'rogue' senators are from two completely solid GOP states, so they don't have to worry about their own re-elections, and the administration can then come in, and look like they're 'doing the right thing for America'.
Their hope would be, of course, that if they succeed, instead of the unanimous shouts of "worst administration ever", at least some of the public will add the tagline, "Yeah, but at least they saved the Auto industry." And for them, that's a winning scenario.
Or was that flash of cynicism, merely a result of my forgetting to take my arthritis medicine?
