Ok...lets be honest now. How many of you thought (jumped to the conclusion) that he was the pizza delivery guy - fixing to rip her off and she owned the apartment ?
When none of the information was given.

When he hesitantly stood by the door for an exceptionally long time, before walking in to his place, he looked suspicious.
Do you walk into your home, yelling "HELLO" "HELLOOOO, numerous times, as though you were the stranger, looking for confirmation that someone else is there?
If I had been an officer and had observed this type of behavior, I would have had probable cause..
Seen the knfe and if he hadn't of dropped it immediately .........
"Well Sgt, he came at me with this REALLY REALLY big knife, I saw what appeared to be blow on his nose (the parmesan cheese) I felt threatened, he refused to drop the knife and coming towards me; I shot.
He gave no indication he was the tenant.

Ah...but the door was open. Would not not enter your own apartment cautiously if when you came back you found the door open ?

In the opening I heard the door bell and the unlatching door was clearing the strike plate.

Correction. The very first view of the apartment shows the door was visibly cracked open. The bell and the sound of opening was the elevator door.
