Special counsel Robert S. Mueller III wrote a letter in late March complaining to Attorney General William P. Barr that a four-page memo to Congress describing the principal conclusions of the investigation into President Trump “did not fully capture the context, nature, and substance” of Mueller’s work, according to a copy of the letter reviewed Tuesday by The Washington Post.

The letter and a subsequent phone call between the two men reveal the degree to which the longtime colleagues and friends disagreed as they handled the legally and politically fraught task of investigating the president. Democrats in Congress are likely to scrutinize Mueller’s complaints to Barr as they contemplate the prospect of opening impeachment proceedings and mull how hard to press for Mueller himself to testify publicly [....]

The letter made a key request: that Barr release the 448-page report’s introductions and executive summaries, and it made initial suggested redactions for doing so, according to Justice Department officials [....]

The Navy admiral in charge of the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay has been fired for an unspecified "loss of confidence in his ability to command."

"Commander, U.S. Southern Command, U.S. Navy Adm. Craig Faller, relieved U.S. Navy Rear Adm. John Ring, commander, Joint Task Force - Guantanamo, April 27, due to a loss of confidence in his ability to command," said a statement from Col. Amanda Azubuike, the spokesman for U.S. Southern Command. "U.S. Army Brig. Gen. John Hussey, JTF-GTMO’s deputy commander, has been designated the acting commander," Azubuike said in the statement. “This change in leadership will not interrupt the safe, humane, legal care and custody provided to the detainee population at GTMO." A 26-year-old former US Army soldier who served in Afghanistan has been charged with plotting terror attacks in the Los Angeles area, the Justice Department said Monday.

Mark Steven Domingo allegedly sought to detonate improvised explosive devices containing nails this past weekend at a rally in Long Beach that was organized by a white nationalist group. He was arrested Friday night after he took receipt of what he thought were pressure cooker bombs, US Attorney Nick Hanna announced at a press conference.

"Law enforcement was able to identify a man consumed with hate, and bent on mass murder and stop him before he was able to carry out his attack," Hanna said.

Domingo allegedly wanted to "seek retribution for attacks against Muslims" and also considered attacks on Jewish people, churches and law enforcement [....]

In a surprising decision, the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit ruled that the little chalk mark placed on your tire by parking enforcement officers is a violation of your constitutional rights. The Sixth Circuit describes Alison Taylor as a “frequent recipient of parking tickets” who challenged the practice as a warrantless trespass by the government and won under an extension of the Supreme Court’s decision in United States v. Jones, 565 U.S. 400 (2012), a case barring the placement of GPS devices on cars. Whether the Supreme Court would agree with the extension (or consider this a de minimus trespass) is a good question [....]

More than half a million children, some as young as eight, get married every year in Iran. Most of these children are girls who marry much older men, sometimes men who are already married and have children their age.

For these girls, marriage means an end to their education, pregnancy in early teens and often divorce before the age of 18. Many come from very poor, large families whose parents have too many mouths to feed.

Some child brides are born to addicts, who trade them for money or drugs, while others get married because of tribal traditions. In some parts of the country, the culture of "one-upmanship" makes families marry off their young daughters to make themselves look good in their tribe.  According to the official IRNA news agency, some families think that girls have to get married at a young age; otherwise people will talk behind their back [....]
