I suspect she is right that they should address this for their own good. I suspect a significant number of voters for Trump and the MAGA theme went for his isolationist talk because of this. The Pat Buchanan thing, where defense spending is really oriented towards defense. Of course Trump (and many of his fans) talk out of both sides of their mouth on this, like the big military ethos, a nice big parade of the shiny things just like the top totalitarians. Creation of outfits like NASA shows the way these gaps in "what do you want this country to be" can be bridged? It's the "U.S.A. #1!" thing. I was not raised to care about sports-team-like competition, but I know others got it deep in their bones, you've just got to frame it right, like JFK did. It is done falsely with "USA has the best health care in the world!" Nobody even bothers to try that with our infrastructure, think about that! Everyone, everyone complains.
