Sotomayor gave a warm welcome to Kavanaugh as part of the Supreme Court "family", as important as one's personal family, with "it's what you do here that matters". Roberts blasted the President for assuming justices are partisan. Oddly enough, for the first time in his life Kavanaugh doesn't need anyone's approval. And it wouldn't be the first time a justice voted differently from what everyone expected. David Brock is the poster child for reformed rightist, but there are still a lot of Never Trumpers like Bill Kristol or Rick Wilson to illuminate a less remarkable but sane pathway for Brett. Let's hope he chooses one or the other.

worth reading Kagan's comment @ Princeton on Oct. 5 again. Which includes the statement that I think people too often don't realize we agree on a lot. If you look at the court's caseload as a whole, you'll find about half of the time we're unanimous. And that both Sotomayor and Kagan have expressed recently that they think Roberts is very good at the chief justice job. I was also struck by both hinting in statements before Kavanaugh was chosen that they would have preferred a centrist, as opposed to someone on their "side", which I saw as a sort of clue to how we may not really fully understand how they do what they do. Except that they prefer that they not have full agreement and that variety of opinion is helpful.
Edit to add: nobody ever seems to mention anything about Clarence. I think that's a sign of somethin'![cheeky cheeky](http://cdn.ckeditor.com/4.5.6/full-all/plugins/smiley/images/tongue_smile.png)
