Erica Garner was a fighter. She was also a supporter of Bernie Sanders. I think that is why this obituary was posted. Sanders gave an impassioned speech about police homicides of black people in the political ad that Erica Garner did for Sanders. Unfortunately for Sanders, black voters rejected his position that separated class from race.

​Hillary Clinton had the support of Mothers of the Movement, women whose sons had been slain by police. Hillary won the Primaries. Several of the mothers spoke at the Democratic Convention. So there were black female activists supporting Hillary.

​​I stand my position that Sanders fails to do outreach in the black community. After his loss, members of the Sanders black outreach staff noted the lack of resources they were given to do their jobs. Sanders remains a nonentity in the black community.

​Erica Garner’s father was murdered by the NYPD for selling loose cigarettes. He was killed by an illegal chokehold. No one was held accountable. Erica Garner fought the good fight. The fight goes on.

Erica Garner had asthma, and her cardiac arrest was a result of an asthma attack. There was a study of the impact of racism on asthma episodes in black women in the pulmonary medicine journal Chest several years ago. Racism may have been a factor in the death of Erica Garner just like a racist judicial system left her father’s murderer on the NYPD.
