AND BOY IS IT JUICY! John Boehner served as speaker of the United States House of Representatives for nearly five years (January 2011-October 2015)....; this essay is adapted from his book ON THE HOUSE, to be published by St. Martin’s Press on April 13, 2021.

Will be 72 by November. I think I remember when Jerry Brown Jr (not his father) was governor the first time, back in Doonesbury Gov. Moonbeam days when he was dating Linda Ronstadt. Maybe Arnie can run again to be the "even *olderer than dirt* candidate.
[ok, Arnie's just 1 yr older than Jenner; Jerry's 10 years older. Still, an Olympian contest seems in order.]

Jenner is pretty famous but is she really famous enough to be qualified to be governor of such a large and complicated state? Meryl Streep is significantly more famous so is obviously more qualified. And Jennifer Aniston is famous, funny, and a member of the cast of friends so would make a better governor. Julia Roberts was a whore in Pretty Women so she isn't just famous but has experience as an oppressed underclass. I just think we need someone more famous than Jenner.
by ocean-kat on Wed, 04/07/2021 - 8:15pm
Julia knows Richard Gere who knows the Dalai Lama. Though Brad Pitt taught the Dalai Lama (in a movie). But neither is transgender. I'm so torn. What's Demi Moore up to?
by PeraclesPlease on Thu, 04/08/2021 - 12:55am
While I agree that Six Degrees of Separation is one of the best ways to pick a governor if we're going to go that route Kevin Bacon wins hands down.
by ocean-kat on Thu, 04/08/2021 - 1:12am
Yeah, but white male privileged degrees don't equal "freedom"
[i think there's some truth to Kevin Bacon's omnirelatability, since he actively worked to destroy the early ratpack image he had and continually switched to new genres, "destroying" his career yet giving him a widespread decent living and extremely diverse portfolio. He's not a megastar box office attraction Matt Damon, but a "Kevin Bacon night" would be more interesting than Bourne, Mars, and a bad Boston gangster movie.

Kinzinger grabbing the moment to try to start erasing some of the Trump stain:
We'll see. I agree with whatever article I read (think it might have been the Max Boot op-ed upthread) that especially after Trump, there's the GOP model of not having to actually legislate or do one's executive job. Rather if you want that base, your job is to stay in the news saying outrageous stuff, does not matter how. And being a victim is good too.
by artappraiser on Thu, 04/08/2021 - 10:49pm
One of the big perks of being out of power, a back-bencher, was more time to go out and pick up chicks, but i think they just blew that one. Maybe. Perhaps it's good advertising. I remember quite a few Republican women had "Trump can grab my pussy" tees. (Don't recall if these were with husbands.) Will it work for Matt? Maybe he's one of those types who'll get married in jail.
by PeraclesPlease on Fri, 04/09/2021 - 1:12am
yeah, I see there's development of a victimhood narrative at the hands of the "deep state", natch:
And Gaetz stories fit perfectly with the whole topic of sex trafficking which is one of Qanon's favs, why wouldn't the "deep state" use against others that which they are expert at themselves?
It will be interesting to see how Kinzinger types try to fight this...

War is politics by other means. We've extended politics, so war has subsided - too messy anyway the profits diner justify the outcomes, and you can get the weapons payoff without actual battles. Except domestic battles.
Good someone recognizes that liberals promoted "replacement" and now are upset the right is upset about it.
Meanwhile I'm largely happy to have whatever immigrants with some obvious numeric limits if they're somewhat able to work and think and don't bring guns. Most immigrants rave like weird Americans after 1 year anyway.
(btw, looks like <100k war deaths globally in 2020, Yemen & Afghanistan the bigger ones at 19k each

OIC! Their ad is very much of the moment, it says "want back the freedom of not wearing a mask? get vaccinated!" It is fighting the Tucker Carlsen forces quite cleverly. Justin Amash wouldn't even have the opportunity to make his true libertarian point if they had their way.
At the same time, Amash is absolutely making a very good point: calling social services on parents' choices is just so "it takes a village." Hypocrisy to the max

Mitt continues with the integrity thing:
and speaking of voters not being edjumcated on another thread
He's certainly got confidence in spades. I think that often goes along with being a religious believer? Joe's got that, too. Same with Pence? Even though he sold his soul to be Trump's V.P., as soon as he is out he's back to an olde fashioned right-wing conservative Christian ideology as if nothing happened; still thinks God has his back, no matter what? Instead of pandering to Trump fans under Trump, he would just sit there and be silent.
