Thanks, AA, That was beautifully written by Patti Smith.
I actually came to be a fan of Shepard through one of my favorite songs by Bob Dylan. It was co-written by Sam Shepard and, on learning that, I began reading his short stories. I believe that a class on short story writing could focus on two songs that I know of. The first would be that Shepard/Dylan collaboration, “Brownsville Girl." It is a story of a life sung in grainy black and white.
This is a version I hadn't heard before with some changed lyrics but which credits Shepard.
