While New York City and Los Angeles have the highest numbers of homeless people in the US, San Francisco has the highest rate of street homelessness nationwide. On any given night, more than 4,300 citizens sleep without a roof over their heads.
When the richest city is breaking records in terms of homelessness, it really puts the lie to the idea that growth, ever more growth, is the solution to all social ills. Growth policy has decoupled completely from social welfare improvements. (excuse the editorializing)
