Huge 'BREAKING' HEADLINE @ WashingtonPost.com right now, published "42 mins. ago"
The accounts from Sergey Kislyak to his superiors, intercepted by U.S. spy agencies, show that discussions in April and July of 2016 with Jeff Sessions included policy issues important to Moscow, contradicting public assertions by the attorney general. One U.S. official said that Sessions has provided “misleading” statements that are “contradicted by other evidence.” A former official said that the intelligence indicates that Sessions and Kislyak had “substantive” discussions on matters including Trump’s positions on Russia-related issues and prospects for U.S.-Russia relations in a Trump administration.

The Fix: Jeff Sessions just got in more trouble — and now he’s put Trump in a box, too

Heh, Louise Mensch is over on twitter doing a victory lap - has been saying for a hal year IC has these types of recordings on Sessions and a number of others. If only she'd not intersperse it with goofy stuff like marshals with warrants spreading across DC that didnt happen... half good naterial, half Nancy Drew. Still, if you read with a skeptical eye, has some value..

Seth Abramson megathread on Sessions-Kislyak.
My take is that
a) Kushner started the ball rolling in Mar 2016 with calls to set up Mayflower meeting [primarily for Rosneft oil deal]
b) @ secret April Mayflower meeting in front of Kislyak and others, Trump promised ( only slightly obliquely ) support on ending sanctions, not really needing an explicit "we'll do..." quid-pro-quo, though maybe (likely?) direct conversations with Kislyak were much more specific.
c) the June meeting with Trump Jr and Kushner wasn't to start things - it was a status meeting seeing if 2 days after Hillary's nomination the Russian spy/hacker/bot operation could deliver now on the anti-Hillary dirt & leaks, and whether the Trump team still knew their obligations.
d) Sessions followed up with Kislyak in person at both RNC meeting in July and later "forgotten" September meetup.
e) August - US intelligence briefs Trump on Russian hacks. Trump response? He never goes back for another intelligence briefing.
f) Trump's inviting Lavrov and Kislyak to the White House the day after firing Comey is perhaps the most incredible part of this, but of course we have it thanks to the Russians taking photos - what message were they sending?
How much more kompromat and revelations to go?
Also wondering what Sessions revelations does to the FBI confirmation hearings? In a sane world they'd stop and rewind. But it's not a sane world.
ETA: DNI Dan Coats caught on back feet weaving and bobbing and blabbing incoherently. This is our "intelligence" leadership?
ETAA: maybe Sessions fall from grace will have some long-needed fallout in Alabama and the rest of the South, where he's still strangely revered? Even Forrest Gump ran out of rocks.

Trump is picking at Sessions again:
Trump asks why ‘beleaguered’ Sessions isn’t investigating Clinton
@ Politico 07/24/2017 09:33 AM EDT,
(Could that mean he is thinking of making him a scapegoat?)
Also the article get into Trump trolling Adam Schiff with tweets, and on that, Politico has just posted this about how Schiff has responded: Schiff responds to Trump’s ‘sleazy’ tweet)
