also I noticed with interest that The Grio (as well as many others) had quite an opposite take on what an "establishment" candidate means these days to the opinion of rmrd.
p.s. I imagine "carpet bagger" still is a significantly loaded term the closer one gets to the historic Mason-Dixon line, I bet.

Killer Mike vs Clyburn
A lot of us weren't that thrilled with Juneteenth - oddly aside from posturing it didn't seem most were that excited. So why *did* it occupy much of media through the summer?
by PeraclesPlease on Thu, 08/05/2021 - 11:46am
Shontel Brown received money from Trump donors. We will see what impact, if any, that has on her voting pattern.

There had been a push for a national Juneteenth holiday. Several states already had a Juneteenth holiday.

I pointed out Brown's donors. She will be an establishment Democrat.
Cori Bush helped push the WH to keeping the eviction moratorium
Shontel Brown would not initiate the move in that direction.
Opal Lee was a major force behind the Juneteenth holiday. It was in the works for years.

Go ahead, say it - Uncle Tom (Aunt Thomasina?)
by PeraclesPlease on Thu, 08/05/2021 - 4:37pm
Sigh
Establishment Democrat.
by rmrd0000 on Thu, 08/05/2021 - 4:48pm
hah hah, when AOC does it, it's so very special to rmrd types, but when Aunt Thomasina does it, it's a big nothingburger:
by artappraiser on Thu, 08/05/2021 - 10:37pm
Aunt Thomasina is a term only being used by PP and AA. I said that Shontel Brown was an Establishment Democrat. She had the support of Establishment Democrats, the CBC PAC, Marcia Fudge's mom, etc. Brown also received support from Republicans who had supported Trump. Those are facts.
Nina Turner lost her race. She angered James Clyburn, and he focused his attention on her. Turner compared voting for Biden to eating a bowl of feces. The race became about Turner's hatred of the Democratic establishment.
https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2021/08/nina-turner-learns-the-hard-way-that-democrats-like-biden.html
The attempt at diverting from the facts is interesting. In the novel "Uncle Tom's Cabin" the slave Tom died a hero, killed because he would not divulge the
nameslocations of two escaped slaves.https://www.theguardian.com/books/2002/mar/30/race.society
Harriett Beecher Stowe based her book on a real life hero, Josiah Henson.
https://blavity.com/blavity-original/this-bhm-let-makinghistorywhileblack-remind-you-that-our-excellence-cant-be-overshadowed-by-bigotry?category1=culture
I posted the story of Brown's victory because, despite being a low turnout special election, it might be an indication of where the party was headed in 2022 and perhaps 2024.
Edit to add:
"Names" changed to "locations"

We know dog whistles. "Establishment Democrat" in black circles is an "Uncle Tom" - ask Killer "don't vote your vagina" Mike - he's got his dog whistles down. Certainly no one uses "Uncle Tom" to mean a "hero" these days, whatever the origins.
As for "where the party's going", the party never left - Obama won because he was a centrist who punched enough buttons for the left. Bill Clinton won because he knew how to talk to blacks as well and made inroads in the right's South (plus Ross Perot siphoned off vites). Hillary lost because enough elements on the left joins the right & Russians to slime and slander her, including some oddly anti-frmale "feminists". But while i like some of the Squad's energy and effect on the party, they're still fringe, and unless the party pays attention to Schor and Clyburn, it'll waltz itself into defeat.
by PeraclesPlease on Fri, 08/06/2021 - 4:17am
If Establishment Democrat is an "Uncle Tom", how did Brown beat Turner?
by rmrd0000 on Fri, 08/06/2021 - 7:57am
I'd like to throw in one piece of advice you left out, my own personal favorite:
JAMES CARVILLE: “WOKENESS IS A PROBLEM AND WE ALL KNOW IT”
Note he didn't say:"that's my opinion", he said: "we all know it". And he didn't mean everyone in the Democratic party, he meant every professional in U.S. national politics, no matter which side they are working for.
by artappraiser on Fri, 08/06/2021 - 12:09pm
"Establishment" means WINNING NATIONALLY. Establishment means majority support, not QAnon nor Trump fan nor Ilhan-Omar-I hate-Israel nor Maya-Wiley-Socialist New Yorker types

From Slate
https://slate.com/culture/2021/06/woke-critical-race-theory-definition-history-meaningless.html
Many freely let Republicans to gain control of the meaning of a word. Look at the current nonsense surrounding Critical Race Theory. It went from a scholarly study of structural racism to making it impossible for teachers to discuss issues of race.
Republicans are openly continuing the coup attempt that began under Trump. Those who find the Woke the biggest threat to the country are gullible.
by rmrd0000 on Fri, 08/06/2021 - 6:10pm
I never heard the term before I saw PP use it, I presume as a pun
You have a serious lack of a sense of humor problem.
Oh and save the Uncle Tom's Cabin lectures for your shallow myopic fellow afro-american-centric history fans. My absolute first undergrad college course was History of American Theater of which already in the early 70's Harriet Becher Stowe's magnum opus was like half the course, already seen as more of import to its affect on white American culture (including but certainly not exclusively thousands of black-face minstrely shows to follow). I have followed scholarship on its import for many decades now. It's a very serious and complex topic.
by artappraiser on Sat, 08/07/2021 - 2:51am
Nina Turner had a 35 point lead and a huge money advantage. Her loss says more about her than Progressives. Turner angered Democratic leadership. She made a local race national. It is likely that there will be no major differences in Brown's voting pattern and how Turner would vote. Turner blew a local race.
James Clyburn

More on the demented nationally counterproductive woke Dems like Cori Bush. GOP campaigns would like to thank her for the fish:
It's almost like she wants to beat the Labour record in the UK for being the losing-est of all time, the Tories can be as evil and stupid as they want because no one, no one will even consider supporting Labour anymore

Ran across this guy who prides himself on observing and fortelling changes in pop culture zeitgeist. Looking pretty good on this one back 8 days ago:
I hope he's right. I and everyone I know in meat space is FUCKING SICK OF YOUR ANGRY PROTESTING MODE left and right. It's so Trumpian and all of 2020 was given over to it, enough already of your humorless anger, negativity, cancel culturing, culture wars distractions over shit where no one is ever going to change their mind, there are- only-two-sides-divisiveness and playing to Putin's wet dreams. We ARE a diverse country. Except that a huge majority are proud of being citizens of this country. The descendants of african slaves who chose not to be here are an ever smaller minority all the time, like they used to say to us hippies back in the 70's: love it or leave it. Way past time those who are no longer sure do that. Get some Joementum and stop your bitching.

I talked to a Texas cousin after a few decades, and during the very long convo (politics didn't come up til the end) she rattled off like 8 times her kids had lost major career opportunities due to racial requirements/untilting the playing field. At some point people will get pissed.

same old "any old fallacy" in argument from you just to keep arguing
PROOF IS NOT THE ISSUE AT HAND when it comes to this topic of elections, IT'S ABOUT PEOPLE'S PERCEPTIONS.
Heard tell generally sunny optimisim works better than negativity on people, especially in swing states, as well as you know, hopey changey, things might noit seem so unfair in the future, stuff like that.
I don't think this would be a sure sell, for example: "all I care about is this one minority and especially fuck all you whypipple" Race war, calling each other names, fighting for spoils, now this seems to only appeal to your type and your doppelgangers that the GOP is lying to right now, the Trump fans.
You seem to enjoy the faux hate and warring so much, bully for you. Enjoy your kabuki show before the boom lowers in swing districts in 2022: enough ot fhis shit, we're sick of it not to mention it's not real.
by artappraiser on Sat, 08/07/2021 - 9:33pm
Psst: hint about reality- while you're playing troll games about non reality like silly mental health policies as a replacement for policing as with your big lie believing doppelgangers blame you for the homicide rate (and the perps thinking you both mean law and order is over so have at it)
Joe's bipartisanship is actually going on, a trillion dollar's worth (not to mention an end to most child poverty, didja miss that one while you are playing lefty squad vs. establishment games?)
you mention losing. where is that going on except for lefties and far righties who are losing so much they have to keep lying? Looks like the Biden admin and allies in (a DemCongress I might add) are following the golden rule for Dems winning nationally: IT'S THE ECONOMY STUPID!
Hopefully they'll NOT listen to people like you and KEEP WINNING as they are RIGHT NOW in a nearly impossible situation of a pandemic and a nut case ex-prez stoking crazies out here
Interesting weet from just a guy named Landry, once advance guy for @JoeBiden @HillaryClinton @TimKaine

People changed the meaning of identity politics
People choose to focus on police abolition rather than rearranging funding of services to a community
They give Republicans cover.
People use Critical Race Theory as a cover for not teaching history about race in the United States
Truth over fiction is better
Truth
The fictional character "Uncle Tom" died a hero
Hillary was not hiding babies in the non-existent basement of a pizzeria in D.C.
COVID is not a hoax
Perceptions can kill.
Where did I say fuck all you white people?
Traveling to Santa Barbara with some white people in September (if the town is not on fire)
BTW: There is a poll suggesting that 69% of Black people are OK with Andrew Coumo remaining in office.
I think Cuomo should resign.
If Democrats can't build the backbone to pass a strong voting rights bill, they deserve to lose.
by rmrd0000 on Sat, 08/07/2021 - 10:38pm
you are both deluded and changing the topic now to totally unrelated shit like Cuomo and #MeToo.
simple fact: the only two term Democratic presidents of our lifetime were centrists proving their centrist bonafides with prominent and clear STFU to lefties via "Sister Souljah" moments during campaigning and strong "uniter not divider" anti-identity politics messaging in their major speeches. Furthermore they followed the rule of "it's the economy stupid" above all others and continued to support bi-partisan efforts no matter how nasty the other party, including during ridiculous impeachment effort for kabuki distraction
NOTHING has changed about how Democrats win. And that includes offering an alternative in behavior of adulting to rabble rousing GOP children. Doing the same thing as the other side is not offering an alternative! You do not become the liberal version of Tom Delay to win against Tom DeLay.
Law and order goes hand in hand with "it's the economy stupid", as people cannot conduct business without some semblance of it. See like, Venezuela.
by artappraiser on Sat, 08/07/2021 - 10:51pm
p.s. um if you are going to bring him up, didja ever notice Cuomo has been an extremely successful Democratic politician to date despite all his personal quirks, flaws and peccadilloes? nearly literally has gotten away with murder because consitutents like the centrist tough guy functionality aspect and lefties who have challenged him end up on the trash heap
~wikipedia
You basically talk from the same kind of delusionary nether world as Trump fans waiting for the return of their savior.. You can't see how nuts and self-centered and baically anti-American you identarians sound to most people? All you care about is your own tribe, that's an attitude that's responsible for some of the worst evils in history and is the opposite of why immigrants want to be citizens of the United States, they are running from the shit you like! Plenty in Africa would love to trade places with you, why doncha think about it?

btw this is the strategy that basically killed the Biden "sexual harassment" story, despite the commenter's assertion this'll do no such thing. (Biden's attacker's assertion was he had run his hand up her skirt (with crotchless panties, delish) in a hall in the Senate building. Seconds indeed.
