Mho, an example of the best The Guardian can give American readers. Immediately I think of what problems we share way across the globe with Australia and what we don't. The cross-culture learning thing. One thing that immediately stands out to me: they've managed to pretty much solve a lot of societal violence with gun regulation et.al. Without even getting into the topic of the article (as a minority of criminal minds will always be with us,) another jumps at me, so what is a true intractable problem, their crime rate reduction narrows it down for us, domestic violence: The vast majority of killers are partners and acquaintances. And interestingly, it doesn't say all victims are women, the whole graph:
A reminder all our complaining about the internet and the development of tribal echo chambers, but back in the day, we were stuck with whether the A.P. would decide to run something about this in the paper. We wouldn't be able to compare/contrast so easily...
